Civilization & Its Discontents

LP (Item 199849) Nonesuch, 1981 — Condition: Near Mint-
(Cover has a cutout hole, small stickers at the top left corner, fading at the spine, and appears to have been inscribed by Salzman in back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bernard Ebbinghouse

Prudence & The Pill
20th Century, 1968. Sealed
A strange little film from the late 60s – a brit comedy starring Deborah Kerr and David Niven, in kind of a tender and silly comedy about the early years of birth control. About half the soundtrack's kind of orchestral and romantic (surprisingly), but the other half is nice and groovy – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ennio Morricone

Le Professionnel
General Music (France), 1981. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great little Morricone soundtrack – later than most of the classic work, but done for a French thriller that starred Jean-Paul Belmondo, with some great spare compositions that have slight romantic French soundtrack touches! There's some great numbers that feature Morricone's style of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tony Bruno

Hell's Angels '69
Capitol, 1969. Sealed Gatefold
An excellent biker soundtrack – very different than the usual bag! For this one, Tony Bruno has come up with some great instrumentals – many of them jazzier than you'd think, and a few with some nice funky Capitol instrumental touches – not so much studio fuzz guitar, as they are ... Parade/Bella Casa (UK), 1966. Sealed
One of the hippest Italian soundtracks of the 60s – and a motherlode of tracks by the great Piero Piccioni! The soundtrack is the source of the oft-compiled "Mr Dante Fontana", a nutty groover about the mod fashion scene in Italy – and it also features the famous tracks " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Unmarried Woman
20th Century, 1978. Sealed

Mainstream, Mid 60s. Very Good+
A wonderful soundtrack from the great Quincy Jones – one that's maybe not as well-known as his albums for Mercury at the time, but which is maybe even groovier! There's loads of great elements going on in the music – a bit of whistling from Toots Thielemans at times, some wordless ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bell, 1969. Very Good+
Swingers unite! Quincy Jones did the score for this very strange film about two couples who decided to freak out their marriages a bit. Gladys Knight & The Pips

Claudine – Original Soundtrack
Buddah, 1974. Very Good+
A wonderful mid 70s set from Gladys Knight & The Pips – a soundtrack date written and produced by Curtis Mayfield, who really helps bring a lot of depth to their music! Curtis really helps Knight and the group get out of some of their hit cliches of the 70s, and find some hipper space ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jimmie Walker

Dyn-O-Mite
Buddah, 1975. Very Good+
The lasting recorded legacy of Jimmy Walker – and material that shows a much sharper, much smarter side of his personality than his character on Good Times! Walker's got a fast-talking, bad-rapping approach that's definitely rooted in the party record scene of the 60s – yet which is ... LP, Vinyl record album
