Fantabulous

LP (Item 199582) Trading Places (UK), 1968 — Condition: Near Mint-
One of the grooviest soundtracks ever served up by Sandro Brugnolini – an Italian soundtrack artist who first started in jazz, but who here is really taking on some of the cooler, more upbeat modes of some of his 60s contemporaries! Some of the best cuts have a romping, organ-heavy sound – and a few others have vocals, all stepping over some cool jerk/shake grooves that make the whole thing a romping little ride, even before the vocals come into the mix! A few other cuts have a mellower vibe, but are still pretty groovy – and in addition to a few lyrical numbers, the rest of the set is instrumental – with titles that include "Fantabulous", "Op", "I've Glimpsed At You", "Cup", "Rhythm", and "Susp".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA (Italy), 1976. Near Mint-
One of the greatest Ennio Morricone dramatic scores of the 70s – composed for Bernardo Bertolucci's epic film Novocento, and featuring some of Morricone's best serious scoring at the time! John Barry/Tom Jones

Thunderball
United Artists, 1965. Very Good+
One of the greatest of Barry's scores for the James Bond films – early enough to be raw, but confident enough to change up the mood nicely! The theme song features vocals by Tom Jones – and the rest of the tunes almost reads as a who's who of hipster influences, as so many of them have ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pretty groovy stuff – even if it is a big shift for Polnareff! Polnareff began his career as a cool French popster – singing in a style that mixed baroque 60s arrangements with the intimacy of folk. Bill Summers

Straight To The Bank
Prestige, 1978. Near Mint-
Probably Bill Summers' best LP for Prestige, and certainly the one in which he got his groove straightened out, and more in the pocket than on some of his other ones. The title cut's a massive groover, and the LP version ends in a cool acappella sweep on the chorus that sounds (in our opinion) ... LP, Vinyl record album
