A fantastic tribute to the great Cal Tjader – and a set that features heavy contributions from the equally-wonderful Louie Ramirez – a vibist whose 60s work had as much influence on Latin sounds as the best records by Cal! The set was recorded in the late 80s, but has a vibe that's a lot more faithful to an old school Latin jazz sound than most from the time – nicely spare production, and a core group who really know how to both hit the right rhythms, and make the most of their solos! Louie plays both vibes and some keyboards – and Paquito D'Rivera adds in some alto solos – in a group that also features Mario Rivera ont enor and flute, Tony Barrero and Al Torrente on trumpets, Larry Farrel on trombone, and Jose Fajardo on flute.
