Tribute To Cal Tjader

LP (Item 19843) Caiman, 1986 — Condition: Very Good+
A fantastic tribute to the great Cal Tjader – and a set that features heavy contributions from the equally-wonderful Louie Ramirez – a vibist whose 60s work had as much influence on Latin sounds as the best records by Cal! The set was recorded in the late 80s, but has a vibe that's a lot more faithful to an old school Latin jazz sound than most from the time – nicely spare production, and a core group who really know how to both hit the right rhythms, and make the most of their solos! Louie plays both vibes and some keyboards – and Paquito D'Rivera adds in some alto solos – in a group that also features Mario Rivera ont enor and flute, Tony Barrero and Al Torrente on trumpets, Larry Farrel on trombone, and Jose Fajardo on flute. Most tracks are instrumental – but Yayo El Indio and Adalberto Santiago add in some occasional chorus vocals – and titles include "Latin Blues", "Milestones", "Mambo For Cal", "Noche De Salsa", "El Titere", and "Soul Sauce".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
