La Nueva Explosion

LP (Item 197107) Cotique, Late 1960s — Condition: Very Good+
A killer group with a very soulful feel! We know little about Jose and his hot little combo, but they groove in a way that takes all the nice downtempo chords of the Latin Soul years and mixes them with a harder percussive 70s salsa style! Jose "Piliche" Elicier leads the group and sings – and the album features some very nice timbales work by Adolph Williams – tightly grooving in a style that crackles like some of the best early 70s work by Joe Cuba. Titles include "A Cuba Bella", "Deja Esa Cosa", "El Velorio", "Santero", and "La Nueva Explosion".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(A great copy!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Latin Power
Gema, 1968. Good
Latin Power is Latin Soul – and the album is one of El Gran Combo's best from the boogaloo era! Stunning sounds from the early 70s Peruvian scene – a really unique take on the cumbia mode of the time, and one that's topped with plenty of psychedelic touches as well!
