DiVE

LP (Item 195481) Mass Appeal, 2019 — Condition: Very Good+
Black Milk has been one of the more soul reverent voices and producers in independent hip hop for quite while in the run up to DiVE (billed as an EP, but a generously lengthy one to say the least, with 11 tracks in all) – and really takes a head first dive even further into hip hop soul here! It's classifiably hip hop, but the mellow soul jazz beatcraft and occasionally sung vocals are next level for sure, and it works really well. Solid, next level work from a fave. Guests include BJ The Chicago Kid and titles include "Save Yourself", "Black NASA" with Sam Austins, "If U Say" feat BJ The Chicago Kid, Relate (Want 2 Know)" feat MAHD, Blame, "Swimm feat Phil Swish, "DiVE Pt 2", "Tyme" and "Now Begin".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Colors – Original Soundtrack
Warner, 1988. Very Good+
One of the first classic hip hop movie soundtracks of the late 80s, and a motherlode of great cuts! As divisive, hard hitting and uncompromising as the movie was, the Colors soundtrack does a great job of delivering on the tone with Ice T's title track and theme some, a snapshot of mid-to-late 80s ... Dangerous/Jive, 1988. Good
The second album from Too Short, and like the first, a set that firmly established both the Cali scene and the Bay Area as a hotbed of harder-hitting hip hop! Rob Swift

Ablist
Asphodel, 1999. Near Mint-
The format here is closer to the Xpressions LP, in that a few of the tracks feature MC's and the rest are nice DJ sound collages – including "All That Scratching Is Making Me Rich!", where Rob Swift flips the old Supreme Team sample, and a dope remix of the already amazing "Musi ... One of the greatest albums ever recorded by the mighty Yusef Lateef – and that's really saying a lot, given his fantastic legacy of albums! Wilson Lewes Trio

Theme From The Silencers
Diplomat, Mid 1960s. Very Good+
A knockoff group – like a lot of the stuff on Diplomat – but they're pretty swingin' nonetheless, and lay down nice versions of the spy themes "The Silencers" and "Our Man Flint". The album's short – and more like an e.p. – but the keyboards are pretty ... LP, Vinyl record album
