Complete Dinah Washington Vol 8 – 1952 to 1953

LP (Item 195387) Official (Denmark), 1952/1953 — Condition: Near Mint-
...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, 1959. Near Mint-
One of the most important records in the career of Dinah Washington – even if only for the hit title track! Dinah Washington

Best In Blues
Mercury, Late 40s/Late 50s. Very Good+
Nice early stuff from Dinah! This album brings together a tasty batch of her earlier R&B sides for Mercury – older singles that have a much rawer R&B sound than any of her later sophisticated stuff. Dinah was a great R&B singer in her own right – and the material on this ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dinah Washington

In The Land Of Hi Fi
EmArcy, 1956. Sealed
The Hi Fi in the title might imply that there's a bit more going on here arrangement-wise than on some of Dinah's other albums – but the scoring by Hal Mooney is still pretty straight, in a sophisticated jazzy mode that works best with the vocals, and which never overwhelms the singing for ... Sarah Vaughan

In The Land Of Hi Fi
EmArcy, 1955. Near Mint-
A hip album from Sarah Vaughan – one recorded with great jazz backings from Ernie Wilkins, and featuring a young Cannonball Adderley as the main soloist! Morgana King

Everything Must Change
Muse, 1978. Sealed
Sublime work from Morgana King – a set that continues the unique mellow vocal tradition begun on her Reprise sides of the 60s, and continued strongly well into the 70s on Paramount and other labels. The setting's somewhat spare here – a small group with guitar, electric piano, bass, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hep (UK), 1982. Near Mint-
A great later effort from the mighty Slim Gaillard – recorded with some hip swinging instrumentation featuring Buddy Tate and Jay McShann that really gets his groove right! We'd pair this perfectly with Slim's 1959 album for Dot – and it's got an excellent tune unheard elsewhere – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1968. Very Good+
Great Atlantic work from Mose – cut in the early years of his rediscovery by the hippie crowd, but with a tight small combo mode that recalls his classic 50s recordings for Prestige! The group on the set's a trio – with Mose on piano and vocals, Red Mitchell on bass, and Bill Goodwin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Peggy Lee & George Shearing

Beauty & The Beat
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
A very nice small combo album from Peggy Lee – singing here with live backings by the George Shearing Quintet, in a style that's very different from a lot of her other work for Capitol! The set's got a slight Latin feel, thanks to George's mix of percussion, vibes, piano, and guitar – ... LP, Vinyl record album
