Let's Do The Bossa Nova!

LP (Item 19532) United Artists, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good

Very cool album that has Tito leaving his more traditional Afro Cuban groove for a more Brazilian one. Tito and band do some nicely groovy versions of bossa standards and more obscure material – including "Otra Vez", "Doralice", "O Pato", "Un Abraco No Bonfa", "Un Domingo Sin Ti", "Se E Tarde Me Perdoa", and "Arrastra Sandalia". The sound is better than you'd expect, thanks to some very lively percussion players in Tito's band, and thanks to a very nice (and unnamed) reed player who serves up some tasty flute and tenor solos!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo black label pressing. Cover has light wear and some staining on the back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tico, 1958. Very Good+
An excellent little set from Tito – recorded in the late 50s for Tico, with a groove that's harder than much of his 60s work for United Artists! The lineup includes some nice jazzy vibes work on a few tracks – and the album includes the great percussive track "Suena Tu Bongo (Beat ... LP, Vinyl record album

West Side Beat
United Artists, 1961. Very Good+
Ostensibly another West Side Story pop ripoff album, this is actually a strong album of Latin tracks that uses the popularity of the musical to draw a parallel with the "west side" grooves of the New York Latin scene. Tico, Late 50s. Very Good-
Original pressing of this late 50's effort by Tito Rodriguez. The record's got a good hard sound that's similar to some of his better RCA work, and which we like a lot more than his later recordings from the 60's. All cuts have vocals, and the band plays lots of short choppy Latin grooves. ... LP, Vinyl record album
