✈
An excellent early gem by one of Brazil's greatest singers! The record captures Elis Regina at a prime early stage – when her voice was raw and filled with emotion, and when she was backed by some excellent arrangements that blended jazz, bossa, and more complicated vocal settings. The material is handled extremely well – and the set list includes many early versions of songs by some of Brazil's best writers, like "Cancao Do Sal" by Milton Nascimento, "Sonho De Maria" by Marcos Valle, "Tem Mais Samba" by Chico Buarque, "Lunik 9" and "Roda" by Gilberto Gil, "Pra Dizer Adeus" by Edu Lobo, and "Boa Palavra" by Caetano Veloso.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(2021 Japanese pressing – includes obi.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Ana Caram

Sunflower Time
Universal (Brazil), 1996. Used
A great introduction to the music of Ana Caram – an early session recorded both in London and Brazil – with all the great mix of modes that might imply! The album's breathy and bossa in some spots, but full and jazzy in others – and Ana's equally at home in both settings! Some ... CD

Caetano Veloso

Fina Estampa Ao Vivo
Universal (Brazil), 1995. Used
A great little live set – recorded in Rio in 1995, with backings directed by Jaques Morelenbaum, one of Veloso's best collaborators during the 90s. The concert has a very organic approach – mixing instrumentation by a small group of jazz players with some larger arrangements on strings ... CD

Philips/Water, 1971. Used
A rare British recording from Gilberto Gil – sung completely in English, and recorded while living in London, in political exile along with Caetano Veloso! The album's somewhat similar to Veloso's famous London album from 1971 – certainly in structure, as the backings are relatively ... CD

Excellent 14 track "best of", which features some of Milton's greatest cuts! The track list is the stuff of legends, and titles include "Para Lennon E McCartney", "Raca", "Travessia", "Coracao Civil", and "Ponta De Areia". CD

Angelo Noce Santoro

For You
ANS/Pharaway Sounds (Spain), 1979. Used
Beautiful Latin-styled jazz – not really New York or Cuban, but also not Brazilian either – and instead this really wonderful hybrid of sounds that's cooked up by guitarist Angelo Noce Santoro – a player with roots in psych and prog! This album's not any of that, though – ... CD

Caetano Veloso

Cinema Transcendental
Polydor (Brazil), 1979. Used
Caetano Veloso at the end of the 70s – still sounding wonderful, but in ways that are quite different from his earliest albums! The sound here is more restrained, and more mature – a beautiful example of the songwriting strength that Veloso evolved as his career moved on – tunes ... CD
Atlantic/Mr Bongo (UK), 1977. Used
An incredible little record – and the set where it really all comes together for this legendary funky jazz group! Azymuth were already great on their debut, although maybe a little experimental at times – but here, they really find the soulful groove that later got them big fame on the ... CD
