Best Of Otis Redding

LP (Item 194132) Atlantic, Mid 1960s — Condition: Near Mint-
A well-selected batch of work from one of the greatest soul singers of all time – and cuts that are presented here in rare mono mixes, all taken from the original mono tapes! The work includes important early sides that Redding cut at Stax Records – where he was the reigning star – plus a few issued after his untimely early death by Atlantic Records, who got their hands on Redding material that was still unreleased – and which gave Otis some of his biggest chart success in the years after he left the planet. The set list is fantastic throughout – the blueprint for so much deep soul to come from later generations – and the package features 16 titles that include "Mr Pitiful", "Stand By Me", "Pain In My Heart", "These Arms Of Mine", "That's How Strong My Love Is", "Respect", "My Girl", "Satisfaction", "Dock Of The Bay", "Hard To Handle", "I've Got Dreams To Remember", "I Can't Turn You Loose", "Try A Little Tenderness", "Shake", and "Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa (Sad Song)".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Analogue Productions, 1965. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Otis Redding Sings Soul – plenty of truth in that – but on this sweet little set, he somehow does it even better than before! The album's got a tightness that's totally great – but it's light years from the smoother soul of Motown, and still has plenty of the gritty Memphis edges ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jean Carne

You're A Part Of Me
Atlantic, 1988. Very Good+
By this point in her career, Jean Carn's added an "e" to her name, has messed up her hair, and picked up a pronounced 80s smooth soul sound. However, she's still recording in Philly, and on the best cuts she makes it past some rather heavy keyboard arrangements that almost get in the way. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1968. Very Good
While this is the sort of collection labels churn out as a loss leader, to spark interest in their artists, this set actually shows off the depth of talent in the Atlantic catalog throughout the 60s. Mostly soul and R&B, but with a few pop numbers too, the twelve song set plays great as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Landmark harmony soul from The Stylistics – a set that's every bit as wonderful as their debut, with the kind of sweet, soulful sound that got played over and over and over and over again back in the day!
