(2020 UME pressing on purple vinyl. Cover is lightly bent in back at the spine.)
Near Mint - (minus)
Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A stone classic from that great early 80s run by DeBarge – that time when they were really reinventing the group soul sound for a new generation, finding a way to bring back older sweet soul modes, but with a very different twist! A great Motown set from the 70s – a record that grooves with the new styles the label was exploring at the time, yet still has a rock-solid quality that links back to its 60s heritage too! The main strength here comes from Bonnie Pointer – whose vocals have an instantly classic sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
Early funk from the Commodores – back in the days when Lionel Richie could still get up and groove! We'll be the first to admit that we're sometimes put off by the group, given their later hits, but it's records like this that actually remind us how great they could be – a mixture of ... Jermaine's going the way of most of Motown at this point – popping the bass pretty heavily, and grooving in a smooth funky mode. The cuts that go too over the top with the funky stuff definitely lose us – but there's a few decent mellow soul tracks that redeem the album, and which keep ... LP, Vinyl record album
Lionel's first solo album after leaving the Commodores – and a solid bit of mellow soul that forever merged the genres of soul music and adult contemporary! Titles include "Serves You Right", "My Love", "Tell Me", "You Are", "Truly", "Jus ... LP, Vinyl record album
Syreeta's second album for Motown – and a set that really expands the groove from the first! (Then) husband Stevie Wonder is all over the album – and in a way, the shift between this album and the first is similar to the shift between Stevie's Music Of My Mind and later efforts like ... A massive 3LP set that brings together most of the best work recorded by Diana Ross & The Supremes for Motown – done in the lavish style that Motown used in these deep Anthology series in the 70s! Each side of each record has a different theme, and the package also features dates for ... LP, Vinyl record album
A masterpiece of harmony soul – one of THE all-time greats of the genre, and a lasting treasure from The Stylistics! The album really took vocal soul to a whole new level for the 70s – pushing from the sometimes fragile ballad style of the late 60s into a smoother, more mature sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
A masterpiece of sweet group soul! This was the first secular record cut by The Voices Of East Harlem – a group who'd had an earlier gospel-tinged album on Elektra, but who are soaring out here in a brilliant mix of righteous mainstream soul styles – courtesy of the Curtom power team ... The third album by The Stylistics – and a set that's still very much in the high-harmony territory of their first two classics! Thom Bell's still very firmly on deck this time around – arranging, producing, and writing a good deal of the material too – and the Sigma Sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
