✈
❔
(Orange label pressing. Cover has a round sticker at the top right corner, edge wear, and lightly bent corners and edges.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tim Maia

Tim Maia (1970)
Polydor (Brazil), 1970. Near Mint-
The incredible first album by Tim Maia – Brazil's greatest soul star in the 70s, and for good reason too – given that Tim was one of the few who could match the depth of American soul and funk at the time! Yet the music here is way more than just a Brazilian version of American soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Papudinho

Especial!
Pat (Brazil), 1969. Near Mint-
Sweet bossa from Sao Paulo – and a really obscure indie set from late 60s Brazil! The style here is less conventional bossa than it is the sort of blend of styles that showed up often in the US during the time – bossa for basic inspiration, but also with bits of warmer pop, easy, and ... Banda Black Rio

Maria Fumaca
Warner (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
An excellent album by one of the greatest Brazilian funk bands ever – a wonderful blend of funk, jazz, and soul – and a set that rivals any of the best work coming from the US at the time! These guys are right on the money right from the start – moving through sharp changes with ... LP, Vinyl record album
Milestone, 1976. Near Mint-
A fantastic set of 70s jazzy grooves, served up with a very unique criss-crossing of modes – as the record was created by brothers Hugo and Jorge Fattoruso, who emerged on the 60s scene in Uruguay with some great work in bossa nova and jazz – recording here with Airto at the production ... Paulo Diniz

Paulo Diniz (1972)
Odeon (Brazil), 1972. Very Good+
A really interesting album – with the complicated MPB feel of some of the best work on Odeon at the time. The style here mixes rootsy instrumentation and vocals with some larger concepts and electric touches – including great piano and organ by Dom Salvador, and musical direction by ... Gal Costa

Personalidade
Philips (Brazil), 1970s/Early 1980s. Near Mint-
Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. This set's a good introduction to her work, and it includes a lot of nice tracks that we don't always turn ... LP, Vinyl record album
Favorite (France), 2012. Near Mint-
A contemporary set, but one that sparkles with all the best brilliance of the 70s scene in Brazil – and that includes such heady company as Marcos Valle, Azymuth, and Joao Donato! As with all those artists at the time, Lucas Arruda has a groove that's strongly based on Fender Rhodes – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Chantecler (Brazil), 1975. Very Good- Gatefold
Sweetly compressed rock from O Terco – one of the strongest mainstream Brazilian rock acts of the 70s, and a group who managed to fuse their progressive roots into a well-honed sound by the time of this mid 70s set! There's some nice Brazilian elements bubbling underneath the set's heavier ... LP, Vinyl record album
Warner, 1977. Near Mint-
A lot smoother than most of Airto's other work – and almost more of a soul record than a jazz one – but also a great batch of grooves with a really spirited feel! Airto's percussion is still relatively up front in the mix, and smooth funky LA arrangements take the album to a warm ... LP, Vinyl record album

Herbie Hancock

Fat Albert Rotunda
Warner, 1969. Sealed
A crucial record in the career of keyboard legend Herbie Hancock – the first session in which he really gets all-out funky, but in a way that's different than his spacier jams to come in the 70s! At some level, the album links the early soul jazz modes of Herbie's first few Blue Note ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1957. Sealed
Trumpeter Louis Smith made only two records for Blue Note, but both of them are great! This set's arguably his most famous – because of a rare uncredited appearance by Cannonball Adderley, working here under the "nom de date" of "Buckshot La Funke" – and blowing ... LP, Vinyl record album
