We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used

so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.
Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-")
the grading for the vinyl.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible
for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt
to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
An excellent smooth soul groover from Johnny Bristol! The album has Johnny stepping into a more sophisticated groove than he used on his early 70s albums for MGM – mixing together styles that sound a lot like those used by artists like Leroy Hutson or Leon Ware at the time, a mix of well-prod ... If you'd told us years ago we'd be digging this sort of late 80s commercial soul, we'd have laughed in your face. But nostalgia has taken hold, and we can't argue with the songcraft here, even if the production (and band's fashion sense) is a bit dated. Not a classic, by any means, but not as ... We like the fact that Troop's hairdresser gets credit on the back of this LP, even though they're all wearing gheri curls. Given the hairstyle, we probably don't need to tell you much about the sound of this Chuckii Booker and Gerald Levert produced new jack LP. Includes "Mamacita", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Nice compilation that brings together some of the excellent lesser-known work that Archie and the group did for Atlantic in the late 60s! You may know their funky hit "Tighten Up" (not on this album), but after that, Archie and The Drells got into an excellent Philly soul vein, with ... LP, Vinyl record album
A well-done showcase of Aretha's best early work for Atlantic Records – a collection that really gets at the deepest soul side of her style, and focuses on the transformation of sound that occurred when Franklin moved over to the label from Columbia. The set's overflowing with greatness ... LP, Vinyl record album
A funky female duo from the P-Funk empire – one of George Clinton's few girl-based projects of the 70s, and a group who are markedly more funk-based than Parlet! Vocals are by the duo of Lyn Mabry and Dawn Silva – but the main sound of the set comes from the tightly crafted rhythms ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great record from Aretha! She performs with James Cleveland & The Southern California Community Choir for two LPs worth of some super gospel material. The tracks include "Mary, Don't You Weep", "How I Got Over", "Precious Memories", "Wholy Holy", ... LP, Vinyl record album
After Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker came head to head with James Brown in the mid 70s, they broke off and formed the Horny Horns contingent – a tight funky backing section that's featured on a number of late 70s funk sessions, and which also recorded some extremely nice numbers on their own! ... Isaac Hayes' first album as a solo act – and a much more stripped down record than his later baroque symphonic sides! Ike's working here in trio mode – playing piano and singing, alongside bass from Donald Duck Dunn and drums from the great Al Jackson – who brings in a warmly ... LP, Vinyl record album
Not to be confused with Donny Hathway Live, this album was issued after Donny's untimely death, and features rare live material from his classic years – most recorded during the same concerts on Donny Hathaway Live! As the fame of his first concert album will attest, Donny's an extremely ... LP, Vinyl record album
A surprising hit for Diana Ross – a record that really helped the singer shine brightly in the 80s, but with a vibe that's quite different than her years at Motown! The album's got plenty of star power on board – production work from Arthur Baker, Richard Perry, Daryl Hall, Lionel ... LP, Vinyl record album
