Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Polydor (UK), 1989. Used
The look of the cover here gives a good indication of the sound – a tighter, poppier Shakatak than in the earlier years – and a further extension of the crossover soul sound of their mid 80s work! The tunes are heavily programmed – beat heavy, with a chunky late 80s groove – ... CD
Polydor, 1983. Used
Plenty of sweet keyboards here, and a groove that's almost ahead of its time – a real precursor to some of the more sophisticated jazzy soul of the later part of the decade – handled here with great early 80s flair by the mighty Shakatak! The group almost sound like an early ... CD

Shakatak

Manic & Cool
Polydor, 1988. Used
Nothing too manic here, as the grooves are all nicely laidback – in that sweetly smooth Shakatak style! The album's definitely a bit more contemporary-styled than some of the group's earlier ones – rhythms that are mostly programmed, and keyboards that have a later 80s sound – ... CD

Something About You
Arista (Japan), 1981. Used
A soaring classic from Angie Bofil – a record that stands as one of the most perfect demonstrations of her upbeat, positive approach to soul! There's a style here that seems to be a bit in the legacy of Minnie Riperton – especially the way that Narada Michael Waldon brings in some ... CD

One True Vine
Anti, 2013. Used
Mavis Staples makes a big nod here to the indie underground that have really helped support her recent comeback – working with production from Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, who also contributed new songs to the record – alongside Alan Sparhawk of Low, and the legendary Nick Lowe too! The ... CD

David Oliver

Here's To You
Mercury, 1980. Used
One of the most obscure – and best – albums by David Oliver, a smooth soul singer who recorded at the end of the 70s, with a warmly spiritual sound that had touches of Leon Ware, DJ Rogers, and other 70s smooth soul greats. This gem is produced by Wayne Henderson – who's really ... CD
