Mirian Presley E Seu Piano

LP (Item 180341) Discos Drink (Brazil), Late 1950s — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold
(Cover has some edge & surface wear, aging, clear tape on the bottom seam.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

Fool On The Hill
A&M, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
One of our favorite albums by Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – a perfect bridge between the simple pop of earlier records, and the group's expanding sound as the 70s approached! The warmly glowing Brasil 66 style is still very strongly in place, but the music here is all a bit hipper – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Beth Carvalho

Saudades Da Guanabara
Philips (Brazil), 1989. Very Good+
(Cover has some pen in a number of places.) LP, Vinyl record album
Songs (Brazil), 1987. Near Mint-
An obscure Joyce album from the late 80s, and a very nice set of mellow readings of Jobim classics, performed with help on keyboards from the great Gilson Peranzzetta! Joyce's guitar and vocals are in the lead, and Peranzzetta plays electric piano and a bit of synth, in washes of sound that feel a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Trova/Mr Bongo (UK), 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
Certainly one of the greatest albums by this excellent (and oft-overlooked!) group from the 70s! The band of young Bahians deliver a great mix of tracks tinged with bits of rock, funky samba, and even a few psychedelic influences – with alternating male and female vocals, and some excellent ... Sadness on guitar – a perfect title for Baden Powell's work on his chosen instrument, especially the way he could bring a simple but emotive style to his music! Powell's work on guitar here is often quite spare, but beautifully handled – set up with rhythms by a small combo that ... LP, Vinyl record album
RGE (Brazil), 1967. Very Good
Pure genius from a young Chico Buarque – simple, effective, straightforward tunes – and music that has had a resonance in Brazil for many decades since! At one level, the sound here draws heavily from the samba recordings of previous years – but at another level, there's a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Dot, 1968. Near Mint-
A groovy blend of bossa themes and some of the lighter pop treatments that Bonfa often received – not really a problem for us, as the approach always filled out his sound a bit more, and made for some catchy tunes with a very groovy style! Tracks include "Bahia Soul", "Dois ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dick Farney & Claudette Soares

Tudo Isto E Amor Vol 2
EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
Mid 70s and mellow work from two legendary Brazilian vocalists – the great Dick Farney and the lovely Claudette Soares, singing here in a set of duets that include a number of classic Brazilian tunes set to lush arrangements. The sound is very classic – kind of a 70s take on an older ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chico Buarque De Hollanda

Chico Buarque De Hollanda Na Italia
RGE (Brazil), Late 60s. Very Good
An early record that really links Chico Buarque to the European scene – an audience that would keep Chico's music strong for many years, and with a reach that went far beyond some of his contemporaries! The set was recorded in Italy, but with all the charm and sparkle of his classic ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maria Bethania/Caetano Veloso/Tom Ze

Quando Os Baianos Se Encontram
Gala/Sigia (Brazil), 1979. Near Mint-
A great little compilation – featuring material (recorded live – but not on all cuts) for the Gala 1979, by Maria Bethania, Tom Ze, Caetano Veloso, and Os Novos Baianos. The sound on the set's nice and raw on the best cuts – and it's worth it alone for the Tom Ze cuts, which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rune Gustafsson

Rune At The Top
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
A very groovy set of pop-jazz guitar tunes – originally recorded by Metronome Records in Sweden, but issued here by Atlantic. The core of the recording is Gustafsson's guitar trio, but the record also features some larger backing by Georg Riedel that have a nice airy feel to them. While the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Laurindo Almeida

Concierto De Aranjuez
Inner City, 1979. Near Mint-
Guitarist Laurindo Almeida returns to a bit of his roots here – but he also shows off a lot of the jazz experience he's picked up along the way! The album features Almeida working solo on acoustic guitar – although possibly overdubbed alongside himself at times – and while the ... LP, Vinyl record album
