LP, Vinyl record album

❔
Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. This set's a good introduction to her work, and it includes a lot of nice tracks that we don't always turn up on vinyl anymore. The range of the material stretches from 1970 to 1983, with "London London", "Azul", "Olhes Verdes", "Dom De Iludir", "Canta Brasil", "Meu Bem, Meu Mal", "Baby", "O Amor", "Olha", "Estrada Do Sol", and "Festa Do Interior".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 80s issue. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bem Bom
RCA (Brazil), 1985. Near Mint- Gatefold
Completely charming work from Gal Costa – lush backgrounds, jazzy keyboards, and lots of other elements you might not have expected in her music a dozen years before – but all handled by Gal with the kind of care and class that have made her one of the greatest Brazilian singers of the ... Great stuff from Gal – even if the record is a lot smoother than her earlier work! The record's got a light jazzy style – like a lot of Gal's other work from the time – but this actually works quite well for her lovely voice, especially on the more intimate numbers. Titles ... Avanco
Philips (Brazil), Mid 60s. Good
A seminal set from one of the greatest bossa combos ever – a group who could boast sharp instrumentation and warm vocal harmonies too! Caetano Veloso

Muitos Carnavais
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
A lively album that mixes Caetano's rich songwriting style with a hard percussive base – a more grooving approach than usual – which gives the tracks a fast jumpy feel, and gives even more power to Caetano's strong vocals! There's some slight post-Tropicalia touches at time – a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Philips (Brazil), Mid 60s. Very Good
A lively batch of pop samba stuff from this big Brazilian artist of the 60's. The tracks are all fairly uptempo, with a sing song rhythm sound, and a nice 60's Brazilian pop groove. Tracks include "Leva Meu Samba", "Saudade Dela", "Sai Do Meu Caminho", "Vida De ... LP, Vinyl record album

Killer work by one of the best of all the bossa vocal groups! Os Cariocas had a sweet swinging style that reminded us a lot of the best American jazz quartets at the time, and on this album they're set in some wonderful arrangements that are a lot more complicated than some of their earlier ... Although this one seems to be a "best of" collection of tracks by Joao Gilberto – it's actually mostly a repackaged version of his stellar Joao Gilberto album for Polydor from the early 70s!
