Personalidade

LP (Item 179938) Philips (Brazil), 1970s/Early 1980s — Condition: Near Mint-
Gal's always been one of Brazil's greatest artists – whether she was singing strange raw tunes during her Tropicalia period, or moving into nice jazzy material during her later years. This set's a good introduction to her work, and it includes a lot of nice tracks that we don't always turn up on vinyl anymore. The range of the material stretches from 1970 to 1983, with "London London", "Azul", "Olhes Verdes", "Dom De Iludir", "Canta Brasil", "Meu Bem, Meu Mal", "Baby", "O Amor", "Olha", "Estrada Do Sol", and "Festa Do Interior".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 80s issue. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear, spot of sticker removal.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gal Costa

Bem Bom
RCA (Brazil), 1985. Near Mint- Gatefold
Completely charming work from Gal Costa – lush backgrounds, jazzy keyboards, and lots of other elements you might not have expected in her music a dozen years before – but all handled by Gal with the kind of care and class that have made her one of the greatest Brazilian singers of the ... Gal Costa

Minha Voz
Polygram (Brazil), 1982. Very Good+
Great stuff from Gal – even if the record is a lot smoother than her earlier work! The record's got a light jazzy style – like a lot of Gal's other work from the time – but this actually works quite well for her lovely voice, especially on the more intimate numbers. Titles ... Aquarela Do Brasil
Philips (Brazil), 1980. Very Good+ Gatefold
Gal Costa pays tribute to one of the greatest Brazilian songwriters of an earlier age – the great Ary Barroso, one of the first to also get his songs translated into other global languages too! As 10 Cancoes Medalha De Ouro
Mit/Philips (Brazil), 1972. Very Good+
A cool record that features some excellent work from Erlon Chaves! Paulo Moura and Mauricio Carrilho did the bulk of the arranging on this record, which has a combination of fuller electric productions on some songs and spare string oriented arrangements on others. Songs include "Meu Cantar", "14 Anos", "De Mal Pra Pior", "Ha ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maria Bethania

Ciclo
Philips (Brazil), 1983. Very Good
A nicely rootsy little album from Maria Bethania – recorded during a period when some of her music could often sound much fuller and more electric! The album's got subtle help from Toninho Horta, Dori Caymmi, and Guto Graca Mello – all of whom arrange Maria's vocals in a sophisticated ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elis & Tom
Philips (Brazil), 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
An incredible album – and a landmark session that showed that the bossa nova was still alive and well in the 1970s! Philips (Brazil), 1968. Very Good-
Very very cool compilation of tracks that seem to be designed as an "export", even though the record was produced by Philips in Brazil. Caetano Veloso

Muitos Carnavais
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Near Mint-
A lively album that mixes Caetano's rich songwriting style with a hard percussive base – a more grooving approach than usual – which gives the tracks a fast jumpy feel, and gives even more power to Caetano's strong vocals! There's some slight post-Tropicalia touches at time – a ... LP, Vinyl record album
