O Canto Da Guerreira

LP (Item 176963) EMI (Brazil), 1989 — Condition: Near Mint-
...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Egberto Gismonti

Cidade Coracao
EMI (Brazil), 1983. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the more unusual Egbergo Gismonti albums from the 80s – and like all of his Brazilian-only records, a very different style than the work he was doing for ECM! There's some occasional vocals, but the bulk of the music is instrumental, with almost a soundtrack vibe – with Gismonti ... LP, Vinyl record album

Egberto Gismonti

Alma
EMI (Brazil), 1986. Very Good+
A subtle album of magical beauty from Egberto Gismonti – and a lesser known record that features him mostly in a solo piano mode. The work's still quite lively, though – filled with wonderful little touches and whimsical moments that often dip down into more somber playing – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
EMI/Odeon (Brazil), Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good
Edgey pop work from the enigmatic singer Taiguara – a bit sweet, a bit baroque, and one of those talents who was secretly helping to push Brazilian pop into the next level! The album features Taiguara's hits, and is a bit less experimental than some of his non-single album cuts – but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milton Nascimento, Maricene, Quarteto 004, & Other

II Festival Internacional Da Cancao Popular Rio
Ritmos (Brazil), Late 60s. Very Good+
A pretty great collection of rare Brazilian tunes form the 60s – all associated with the important Festival of song in Rio. Side one features live recordings from the festival – including two unique versions of "Travessia" and "Morro Velho", both done in a warm ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elizeth Cardoso & Ciro Monteiro

A Bossa Eterna De Elizeth E Ciro Vol 1
Copacabana (Brazil), 1966. Very Good+
A beautiful set of duets from 60s samba stars Elizeth Cardoso and Ciro Monteiro – released in collaboration with the Bossaudade TV show! The sound here is light and lively – with backing from Caculinha and his combo, who mix together acoustic samba rhythms with a nice touch of electric ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66

Equinox
A&M, 1967. Very Good
The second album by Sergio and crew – and a real push forward for the group! The basic format of two-female harmony leads is still in place – but for some reason, this album gives a bit more of a nod to Brazilian roots than before, and really spices things up with an even more ... Philips (Brazil), 1968. Very Good-
Very very cool compilation of tracks that seem to be designed as an "export", even though the record was produced by Philips in Brazil. The set features a wide range of some of Brazil's best artists from the pivotal years of 1968 – and include Tropicalia gems like "Batmacumba&q ... LP, Vinyl record album
Som Livre (Brazil), 1973. Very Good-
A killer Brazilian soundtrack! The record is a mix of funky easy tracks – in a Blue Brazil kind of mode – with other titles played by trumpeter Marcio Montarroyos that have a jazzier edge to them. The whole thing's kind of a mad mix of old and new Brazilian styles of music, touched by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bohannon

Keep On Dancin'
Dakar, 1972. Very Good+
Massive grooves from the mighty Hamilton Bohannon – the kind of skittish, nervous rhythms that made his funk unlike any other artist of the 70s! There's a sense of rhythmic progression here that's super-tight, but often quite subtle in its inflections – a mode that went onto have a ... LP, Vinyl record album
