What more can we say? This stuff's some of the most beautiful pop soul material cut in the early 70s, and nearly every cut's great. 10 tracks in all, including "Kissing My Love", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Grandma's Hands", "Harlem", "Lean On Me", "The Same Love That Made Me Laugh", "Who Is He To You", "Use Me", "Everybody's Talkin'", and "You".  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Migration
Sussex, 1974. Very Good+
A great follow-up to the group's first hit LP on Sussex – not nearly as successful chart-wise, but a great display of their unique approach to group soul. The band's a quintet at this point, and their vocals are arranged by Skip Scarborough with that sweet compressed style that he was ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great album of funky grooves put together by Bill Cosby, and featuring some of his funky friends from LA, like Stu Gardner, Gildo Mahones, Mel Brown, Willie Bobo, Monk Montgomery, and Paul Humphrey! Heavy Love
Sussex, 1972. Very Good
Good album by this female-male-female soul trio, with a lot of tracks written and arranged by Van McCoy, with the good New York soul sound that he was laying down with groups like this in the days before he hit the disco. Zulema's on vocals, and she also wrote a few tracks. Cuts include "God ... LP, Vinyl record album

Goin' For Myself
Sussex, 1972. Sealed
Classic funky groovers from Dennis Coffey – with his hard guitar sound gettin' all fuzzy over some loud drums and funky Sussex production! This one's still very much on the "Scorpio" vibe, when the label was keeping things nice and hard – and before Dennis got a bit hooked ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sussex, 1971. Very Good
An incredible album of deep deep soul! Recorded way before Sharon Ridley became a big club diva, this record mixes deep soul vocal stylings with some well produced Van McCoy arrangements, and backing by some crack New York players. Motown, 1966. Sealed
A very strong compilation of some of the best soul that Mary Wells recorded for Motown – and probably her only real album for the label. Although issued in 1966, the material hearkens from earlier days at Motown – and titles include "The One Who Really Loves You", "Two ... LP, Vinyl record album

Open Sesame
De-Lite, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold
A magic carpet ride of funky soul from Kool & The Gang – classic Open Sesame from '76 – one that took the group to a higher level! It's not as rawly funky as some of the group's earlier albums, but they do still bring it, just with a cooler spirtual vibe that we never expected ... LP, Vinyl record album

A strong 70s set from Linda Lewis – her first for Arista, and a date that has her picking up a fuller style than before! MCA, 1978. Near Mint-
Post "Freaky To You", but with a groove that's still clearly trying to hit the same sort of frequency as that big hit. Includes "You Bring Out The Freak In Me", "Super Sexy", and the clubby "She's Built She's Stacked". LP, Vinyl record album

Just We Two
Gordy, 1969. Sealed
A rare gem from Edwin Starr – quite different than any of his other work for Motown, and a sweet soul album that's been a favorite of ours for years!
