TV's Golden Hits

LP (Item 171678) Compleat, Mid 1960s — Condition: Sealed
(Mid 80s issue, still sealed with a cutout notch and round sticker spot.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

TV's Greatest Detective Hits
Compleat, Mid 1970s. Sealed
Excellent work from Brit easy bandleader John Gregory – an assortment of 70s police and crime themes, played by a big band with a nice soundtrack-y finish! Nearly all the tunes are uptempo, and the feel of the record is very much in the same vein as Henry Mancini's Cop Show Themes album ... LP, Vinyl record album
Imperial, 1968. Very Good+
Very groovy set of Now Sound instrumentals based around the work of Donovan. Great LA studio sound mixed with all of Donovan's groovy writing, and the result is some cool versions of "Jenifer Juniper", "Sunshine Superman", "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", and "Catch ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atco, 1962. Very Good+
A very groovy batch of guitar instrumentals – played, using overdubs, in multi-guitar format, all by Danish player Jorgen Ingmann! Walter Carlos (now Wendy) performs electronic versions of many classics on the Moog. If nothing else, this is an interesting period piece, though on a certain level we're quite fond of it, oth in it's performance and it's motivation. Moogy takes of Monteverdi's "Orfeo" suite, several ... LP, Vinyl record album

Guitar From Ipanema
Capitol, 1964. Very Good+
Breezy bossa nova – Hollywood 60s style! Quiet Village
Liberty, 1959. Very Good+
An undisputed classic in the exotica genre – and the record that yielded Martin Denny his biggest hit! The title track "Quiet Village" was originally written by Les Baxter, but it was Martin Denny's approach that really managed to send the tune over the top – using spare ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michel Legrand

Breezy
MCA, 1973. Near Mint-
Breezy indeed – as the record has a light, floating approach that's every bit the best part of Legrand's work in the 70s! The album's mostly instrumentals – strings soaring over slinky bass and sublimated rhythms, in the manner of the best post-60s French soundtracks, occasionally ... LP, Vinyl record album
