One Way Featuring Al Hudson (1979)

LP (Item 17020) MCA, 1979 — Condition: Near Mint-

A dancefloor soul classic – one of the strongest albums ever by Al Hudson, Alicia Meyers, and the whole One Way crew! The record's got a sweet soulful feel that provides a nice counterpoint to its bass-heavy grooves – popping along at that midtempo pace that was Al's popular remedy for disco on the dancefloor, and which had a crucial effect on soul at the time. The album still plays mighty big here in Chicago, where a classic 80s groove can reign supreme if it's strong enough – and tracks include "You Can Do It", "I Am Under Your Spell", "Guess You Didn't Know It", "Music", "Come Dance With Me", and "Now That I Found You".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(UK pressing. Cover has a promo sticker.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Virginity
Chycago International/CBS, 1984. Near Mint-
Clubby uptempo grooves from this little-known Chicago diva. This album was cut for CBS in the early 80's, and features the track "Doin' It In A Haunted House", which is still sort of a big club track around these parts. Also includes 'Could This Be The End", "Mad About ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lani Hall

Hello It's Me
A&M, 1975. Near Mint-
A mellow album from Lani Hall – a singer who's best known to most as one of the lovely voices in Brasil '66, working here with Herb Alpert in a smooth LA pop 70s style. Lani's voice is a bit over the top on a few of these cuts, but there's a few more that redeem the album with a sweet little ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sweet Bird
A&M, 1976. Near Mint-
Sweet grooving from Lani Hall – a record that's a long way from her roots in Brasil 66, but which has some surprisingly nice touches at times! Warner, 1989. Near Mint-
Randy Crawford's really pushing her range nicely on this classic set from the late 80s – still very much in the jazzy soul mode that brought her big notice right from the start, but also working towards some warmer moments that helped the record cross over nicely too!
