South Louisiana Juke Box Hits

LP (Item 168526) Jin, Late 60s — Condition: Near Mint-
Includes selections by Tommy McLain, Clint West, Charles Mann, Gene King, Johnnie Allan, Lil Bob & The Lollipops, and Margo White.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 70s issue. Cover has a light stain at the bottom seam.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Marketts

Out Of Limits!
Warner, Mid 60s. Very Good+
The title track's a mighty big hit for The Marketts – and it's also a great way to describe the group's talent for pushing past their boundaries at the time! The sound is surf instrumental at the core – but really stretches out to space themes, soundtrack areas, and more – thanks ... LP, Vinyl record album

David Bowie

Young Americans
RCA, 1975. Very Good+
A brilliant soul album! That's right, we said SOUL album! Bowie was at the height of his Ziggy Stardust fame when this one was recorded – a drastic left-turn in styles, forged during a point in his American tour when he could take a break, head to Philly, plug in at the Sigma Sound Studios, ... Captain Beefheart

Trout Mask Replica
Straight, 1969. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A seminal moment in leftfield music – maybe the crowning achievement of Captain Beefheart, and a landmark collaboration with Frank Zappa as well! Zappa produced, and gave the group plenty of room to stretch out on this double-length set done for his Bizarre Records imprint – which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Paul Revere & The Raiders

Goin To Memphis
Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good+
An overlooked groover by this 60s rock act – recorded in Memphis by Chips Moman, with a hard sock-soul approach that's almost a blue eyed soul take on the sound of Stax! There were probably more than a few famous Memphis session players on the set, and you can certainly imagine who might ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blondie

Autoamerican
Chrysalis, 1980. Very Good+
The biggest sounding Blondie album by far – and a radical leap from New York new wave scene band to a wildly ambitious pop pastiche machine! The band always had a fearless way of filtering far-reaching pop sounds into their material, even when they were still on the CBGBs scene, and while ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elektra, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
A fantastic follow up to Queen's Night At The Opera album – and like that one, a complete sonic masterpiece from start to finish – the kind of record that has the group hitting on all burners, and forging a non-stop blistering assault of sounds that would forever cement their legacy in ... Decca, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold
A classic greatest hits package from The Who – one that had almost as much life as any of their major full length albums, and a set that served to re-introduce new audiences to the group after the success of Tommy and Who's Next! Most of the tracks here predate those albums – pulled ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thelonious Monk

Straight No Chaser
Columbia, 1967. Near Mint-
Classic 60s work from Thelonious Monk – featuring his incredible quartet with Charlie Rouse on tenor, certainly Monk's best-ever musical soulmate! The album features some newer versions of older tunes, and a few written just for the album – but the source of the material is not ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tiny Grimes

Some Groovy Fours
Classic Jazz, 1974. Sealed
Tiny Grimes is one of the most unique guitarists in jazz – a player with a force and power that's clearly rooted in the blues – given that he can hit the strings like T Bone Walker or Pee Wee Crayton – but a style that's clearly jazz overall, and delivered with a heck of a lot of ...
