LP, Vinyl record album

One of the more obscure sides on Curtom, and a nice nice soul album by Ed Townsend – the man who brought the world the track "For Your Precious Love", plus lots of other soul classics. The sound of this one's very much in the vein of classic mellow Curtom 70's material, and there's lots of nice cuts, including "This Too Shall Pass", "The Moving Finger Writes", and "Where Did Those Signs Go". (Cover has some wear and pen in one corner.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Curtom, 1975. Very Good-
A great album by Curtis Mayfield – filled with some excellent lesser-known gems! There's No Place Like America was Curtis' scathing testament to the State Of The Union – and it's got a hip political tone that's right up there with the best of his early 70s songwriting – perhaps ... Curtom, 1978. Sealed
The standout classic from Curtom disco diva Linda Clifford – and an album that showed that Chicago could rival Philly in the clubby groove department! Linda has a proud presence that really matches that of her better-known sisters in the City Of Brotherly Love – and she's singing here ... LP, Vinyl record album
Heartbeat
Curtom/RSO, 1979. Very Good
A real dancefloor set from Curtis – recorded with some sweet Philly production from the likes of Norman Harris and Bunny Sigler – in the sweeping, soaring, strings-heavy mode of the Philly disco records of the time! And yes, this isn't classic Curtis from the righteous years – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Preacher Man
Curtom, 1973. Very Good
Heavy soul from the early 70s version of The Impressions – put together with all the same depth as Curtis Mayfield's work of the time! This time around, Rich Tufo is at the helm on production and arrangements – but he continues to wave the Curtom flag high with some wonderfully put-toge ... LP, Vinyl record album
Never Say You Can't Survive
Curtom, 1977. Very Good
A great album of mellow soul tracks from Curtis Mayfield – laidback, slinky, and almost to his earlier work what Let's Get It On was to the early 70s career of Marvin Gaye! The album's got a warm, soulful vibe that's totally great – not as all-out funky or politically righteous as ... LP, Vinyl record album
Greatest Hits
Relic, Late 50s/1990. Near Mint-
Earl Lewis leads the Channels on this collection of 16 Doo-Wop songs from that late 50s. The tracks include their big hit "The Closer You Are" as well as other such as "Stars In The Sky", "The Girl Next Door", "That's My Desire", "All Alone", "I ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bottom Of The Top
Playboy, 1973. Near Mint-
Funky blues with a heavy guitar sound, played by Phillip Walker, who played with a number of New Orleans and southern players in the 50's, then moved to LA in the 60's. The album's one of the few rare ones on the Playboy label, and it was recorded in LA with a smooth 70's feel. Titles include ... LP, Vinyl record album
Keni Burke
Dark Horse, 1977. Near Mint-
The first great solo album from Five Stairstep Keni Burke – really recreating himself as a completely different sort of artist – one who's all grown up, and able to work in this jazzy approach to modern soul that's completely great all the way through! Keni produced the record himself ... LP, Vinyl record album
Do It All Night
Curtom, 1978. Near Mint-
A clubbier album than usual from Curtis Mayfield – a mid 70s attempt to move onto the dancefloor, but a set that's still got the undeniable Mayfield charm! Half the tracks here were done in collaboration with disco maestro Gil Askey – and these numbers are longer tracks that soar and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1982. Very Good 2LP
Here begins the period that Prince went from a fascinating, genre defying hitmaker to an unstoppable cultural force – bringing a bit of a new wave pop punch to the funky synth soul – and somehow crafting some of the most irresistible singles of the 80s! Vivian Reed
Epic, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Vivian Reed was an obscure soul singer who cut a few equally obscure albums for Epic, of which this is the first. Given that she was a new discovery by the label, it's not surprising that the record was handled in the way that it was – she was produced in 2 different styles, one with ... LP, Vinyl record album
Friction
Stax, 1974. Very Good
One of the most fantastic albums ever about cheatin' and runnin' around behind the back of your loved one, and easily the best thing the Soul Children ever did.
