Our Man Flint

LP (Item 16667) 20th Century, Mid 60s — Condition: Sealed
Excellent soundtrack work by Jerry Goldsmith – possibly his greatest ever! Jerry's usually a bit staid with some of his scores – but working here on the soundtrack to this James Coburn spy spoof film, he's truly fantastic! The approach mixes strings and bossa-inflected grooves with some spookier instrumental touches – either on electric guitar, sax, or a "tortured" Thomas organ and a Solovox – and the overall feel of the album is on a par with the best work of the sort by Lalo Schifrin or Hugo Montenegro! Titles include "Doing As The Romans Did", "All I Have To Do Is Take A Bite of Your Apple?", "Tell Me More About That Volcano", and "Our Man Flint".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed original stereo pressing! Cover has a small cutout hole.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Michel Legrand

Other Side Of Midnight
20th Century, 1977. Near Mint- Gatefold
A fairly lush soundtrack from Michel Legrand – scored for a WWII period piece that starred Susan Sarandon, but done at a level that matches some of Legrand's more famous film music from the 70s! Orchestrations are rich, and filled with sentiment – and the album's got an especially ... LP, Vinyl record album

Konrad Elfers

Funeral in Berlin
RCA, 1967. Near Mint-
One of the grooviest Michael Caine spy films of the 60s – given an equally groovy soundtrack by Konrad Elfers! We don't know Elfers from other work of the time, but this album's a real standout – not the usual spy sort of work, although still with some great jazzy touches at times ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luiz Bonfa/Eumir Deodato

Gentle Rain
Mercury, 1965. Near Mint-
A dreamy little soundtrack to this lesser-known film – but a real bossa classic from the 60s, featuring original tunes by Luiz Bonfa and orchestrations by Deodato! The sound of the set is really wonderful – sometimes fragile, sometimes full – with a juxtaposition that beautifully ... LP, Vinyl record album

James Brown, Survivor, Go West, & Others

Rocky IV
Scotti Bros, 1985. Near Mint-
A real mish-mash of terrible music (then again, wasn't the movie pretty terrible too?) – but the record is noteworthy for the track "Living In America", which was a bit of a comeback tune for James Brown – and not a bad little number when you think about it. Of course, the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Hamlisch/Mongo Santamaria/Burt Bacharach

April Fools
Columbia, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A really wonderful soundtrack, with loads of groovy tracks! The film stars Jack Lemmon, and the format of the record is similar to the Odd Couple – in that musical tracks are interspersed with dialogue, to keep the feel of the progression of the movie. Side one has some especially groovy ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Addison

Sleuth
Columbia, 1973. Near Mint-
Mostly quirky orchestral numbers, written by Addison for this early 70s film that starred Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier. Cecil Taylor

Unit Structures
Blue Note, 1966. Near Mint-
One of a rare few albums done by pianist Cecil Taylor for the Blue Note label in the 60s – some of the most outside work recorded for the imprint at the time! The word "structures" here is perhaps a bit misplaced – as the work has a strong sense of freedom with the soloists ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dizzy Gillespie

New Wave
Philips, 1962. Very Good-
A lost bossa jazz classic from Dizzy Gillespie – recorded at a time when Lalo Schifrin was working in his combo! The record's got a cool, laidback kind of groove – one that's miles away from Gillespie's earlier bop work, and which shows him opening up his rhythmic conception strongly ...
