Excellent instrumentals from The Maestro! Barry's in fine fine form here – and he's just about the only one who could make a record with so many strings sound so funky! The album includes the excellent groover "Bring It On Up", which has a tightly snapping rhythm underneath soaring violins and harp – and just about ever other cut on the album sounds as great! Titles include "Midnight Groove", "Forever In Love", "Give Up Your Love Girl", "You're All I Want", "Makin Believe That It's You", "I Wanna Stay", and "It's Only What I Feel". Maybe the best Love Unlimited Orchestra album – with loads of great tracks!  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brazil
20th Century, 1975. Very Good
A standout set of tropical disco tunes – one that takes its groove in 2 different ways! The whole thing was put together by producer Jacques Morali – and part of the album's got a style that nicely updates older Latin themes with a funky 70s disco groove – one that uses larger ... Ellen McIlwaine
20th Century, 1978. Near Mint-
Although Ellen McIlwaine's always best-remembered for her folksy work on Polydor, she's also pretty darn nice on this kind of record – a sophisticated soulful outing that shows that she sould still really thrive as an artist in a more commercial environment. The best cuts are the mellower ... LP, Vinyl record album

World Pacific, Late 60s. Very Good- Gatefold
A sweet album of funky guitar tracks, with Freddy Robinson out front over a bunch of tight LA Monk Higgins arrangements. Kind of a sleeper that hasn't really gotten as many props in the groove scene as it ought to, with a great sunny west coast 60s soul jazz vibe running throughout. Joe Sample ... Rotary Connection
Cadet, 1967. Very Good+
One of the best Rotary Connection albums for Cadet – with an incredible baroque spacey soul sound that still feels very fresh today! The group's vocals are especially eerie – and float around these wild arrangements by Charles Stepney, peppered with strings, soul, fuzzy guitars, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Thumb, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
Their first album, and the one that's got their big version of Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can" – which starts with a nice break, too! Other tracks include "Sugar", "Pains & Tears", "Jasa", "River Boulevard", and "Cloudburst". ... LP, Vinyl record album

Down To Earth
Gordy, 1974. Very Good-
Undisputed Truth at the height of their powers – still working in the psychedelic soul style they forged with Norman Whitfield at the end of the 60s – but with a groove that's tighter and sharper than ever before! We might well call the record the funkiest the group ever cut – as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bitches Brew
Columbia, 1969. Near Mint- 2 LP Gatefold
One of the few cases in jazz where an oft-played classic still resonates with power! The record itself is a key cap to Miles Davis' already-groundbreaking years of the 60s – a bold step forward, not just for his nascent electric sound, but also for jazz in general – and the benchmark ... Impulse, Mid 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
Haunting set of stripped down tracks by the brilliant Yusef Lateef, who not only plays his usual assortment of reeds here – tenor, alto, flute, and oboe – but also lays down a bit of theremin! He's accompanied by Hugh Lawson on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, and Roy Brooks on drums ... LP, Vinyl record album
