Beautiful sounds from the team of bassist Charlie Haden and percussionist Paul Motian – a record that draws on their earlier experiments on the ECM label, but delivers a sound with a lot more bite! The real difference here is pianist Geri Allen – whose presence in the group really helps deepen the sound and widen the tonal range – often with a pointed sensibility that's in contrast to the work of Haden and Motian. Both players act in a role that's more in the lead – so that the record is less a trio led by a pianist, than a meeting of a bassist and drummer, with piano in the mix.
