Choro E Isto

LP (Item 164221) Discos Marcus Pereira/Polydor (Japan), Mid 70s — Condition: Near Mint-
A great Japanese issue of material originally recorded in Brazil by the Marcus Pereira label – choro recordings by a group that includes Manuel Gomes on flute, Fritz on pandeiro, Geraldo Cunha on guitar, and Benedito Costa on cavaquinho!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes obi.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Eduardo Dusek

Cantando No Banheiro
Polydor (Brazil), 1982. Very Good+
New Wave hits Brazil – in case you couldn't tell by the album's op-art cover, and Dusek's sunglassed trendoid image on the front! The album seems to be relatively tongue in cheek – although it's a bit hard to tell if you don't speak the language – and titles include "Rock Da ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sergio Mendes

Swinger From Rio
Atlantic, Early 60s. Very Good
Sergio Mendes is definitely a swinger – especially on this jazz-based session that was recorded before his famous work with Brasil 66! This album was recorded in New York, at a time when Mendes was one of the hottest things brewing in the bossa scene in Brazil – and apart from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milton Nascimento

Noticias Do Brasil
Tropical (Germany), Early 80s. Very Good+
A beautiful Milton Nascimento collection from the early 80s – one that almost returns to some of the more intimate modes of his earliest years, while still holding onto the sense of majesty that he picked up during the 70s too! Milton's vocals are wonderful, as always – filled with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gal Costa

Profana
RCA (Brazil), 1984. Near Mint-
A warmly jazzy album from Gal Costa – much more so than you'd expect from her slightly creepy white face on the cover! Milton Nascimento

Cacador De Mim
Ariola (Brazil), 1981. Near Mint-

Ciclo
Philips (Brazil), 1983. Near Mint-
A nicely rootsy little album from Maria Bethania – recorded during a period when some of her music could often sound much fuller and more electric! RGE (Brazil), 1968. Very Good-
Amazing work from a young Chico Buarque – a record that seems to draw on all the best elements of 60s Brazilian pop, and forge them into a sound that's all its own! At one level, there's a post-bossa style of larger arrangements here that recalls the work of Edu Lobo – handled by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vinicius De Moraes En La Fusa Con Maria Creuza Y Toquinho
Trova (Brazil), 1970. Very Good
A rare session by Vinicius – featuring a 1970 recording in Buenos Aires – with Maria Creuza and Toquinho. Creuzza was at her best during the early 70s – and working here with the classic bossa team of poet Vinicius De Moraes and guitarist Toquinho, she really sparkles with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Milton Nascimento

Yauarete
CBS (Brazil), 1988. Very Good+ Gatefold
A tightly produced effort from the late 80s – with a sound that's certainly more commercial than some of Milton's earlier albums, but which is still graced by some great vocals and occasional soulful moments.
