Cuban Fire

LP (Item 1620) Capitol, 1956 — Condition: Near Mint-
Also available
Stan Kenton — Cuban Fire ... CD 3.99

One of Kenton's greatest records, and the one in which he proves his dedication to Latin styles, by serving up a killer batch of Afro-Cuban tracks with an incredibly authentic feel. The great Johnny Richards handled the arrangements, and the tracks are long and drawn out, with plenty of solo space for the group. Titles include "Fuego Cubano", "Quien Sabe", and "La Quera Baila".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono turquoise label pressing. Cover has a small split in the top seam.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Adventures In Time
Capitol, 1962. Very Good-
Later modern work by Kenton – but still pretty darn great! The album features arrangements by Johnny Richards – clever explorations in time that still swing with that nice Richards touch, played by a group that features a number of lesser-known younger players, including Don Menza, who' ... Kenton In Hi-Fi
Capitol, 1956. Very Good-
Easily the most successful album that Stan Kenton ever recorded – a brilliant reworking of older Kenton band standards, done with the dynamics of the 50s hi fi scene! The album's a much-needed one to any fan of Stan's genius – as the tunes are presented here in recordings that really ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funky stuff from Stan – a very different album than usual! Portraits In Strings
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good
Beautiful work from Kenton – lush string settings that have as much power and imagination as his work with horns, and which come across with some really dark edges. The tunes are awash in color and tone – never sleepy strings, but edgey ones, as in the mode of Ralph Burns' best ... LP, Vinyl record album
