Good Stuff

LP (Item 1608) 20th Century, 1974 — Condition: Very Good

A great bit of Chicago soul from the 70s – by a short-lived group who were sort of an offshoot of Brighter Side Of Darkness, who had scored earlier in the decade with the falsetto hit "Love Jones". This one was produced by Clarence Johnson/Star Vue Productions, and licensed to 20th Century, like the earlier work – and the record features a remake called "Love Jones 75". There's loads of other great stuff on the record, though – and the groove runs through the funk of "Tipsy Mood" and "Kung Fu You", to the mellower soul sounds of "I Found My Dancing Girl", and wonderfully sweet little number!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover have moderate waviness, staining and peeled spots with pen notations on the back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

20th Century, 1974. Near Mint-
Standout work from The Younghearts – one of the best harmony soul groups of the 70s to record away from the east coast. The group's vocals are the strongest thing about the record – but they get a great extra push from Vernon Bullock, who produced and conducted the record with a nice ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rita Jean Bodine

Sitting On Top Of My World
20th Century, 1974. Near Mint-
Put Rita Jean Bodine in the same category as Ruth Copeland – a white female singer who's mostly a rocker, but who manages to put some nice touches of funk into the mix! The album's got a very soulful undercurrent – even on the rock tracks – and there's 2 pretty nice tracks that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kinsman Dazz

Kinsman Dazz
20th Century, 1978. Sealed
A killer debut from the Dazz Band – issued way back when they were named Kinsman Dazz, and when "dazz" was a reference to the fact that the group could play both dance music and jazz! That jazzy element is definitely in place here – as the set's got lots of hip instrumental ... LP, Vinyl record album

J Blackfoot

U Turn
Edge, Early 80s. Sealed
Not as strong as some of Blackfoot's other solo work – a mix of styles that has his roots in the Memphis scene getting a bit of an 80s production touch, sometimes a bit too tinny to sound great, at others rolling into more comfortable territory with a warmer feel. Homer Banks wrote and ... LP, Vinyl record album

J Blackfoot

Physical Attraction
Sound Town, 1984. Sealed
A really nice little album from J Blackfoot – one that's recorded with a few 80s touches, but in a way that mostly preserves the sweetly crackling style that makes his vocals so wonderful! There's plenty of mellower tunes here that echo with the rich contribution that Blackfoot brought to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Saturday Night Fever
RSO, 1977. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Yes, it was a mega-hit – and yes, it was one of those records that everyone who lived through the 70s seemed to own at one time – but after all these decades, you can't deny the power of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack – especially for the way that it mixed club soul classics ... Stang, 1973. Very Good+
A great little record by The Moments – and actually one of their best LPs for Stang! It's supposedly a "best of" – but the record's really more of a solid album all the way through, with many tracks that aren't really big hits or anything. The group's harmonies are in great ... Al Jarreau

All Fly Home
Warner, 1978. Very Good+
Classic fusiony jazzy soulful vocals from Al, with the bright kind of LA groove that brought Al into millions of living rooms during the 70s. Tracks include "I'm Home", "Brite & Sunny Babe", "Fly", "I Do", "Thinkin' About It Too", and his ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Songs In The Key Of Life
Tamla, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A sweet little double LP – one that had some folks saying that Stevie should have stayed away from the "2LP syndrome", but for us a real treasure with lots of hidden gems. Besides the hits "Isn't She Lovely" and "Sir Duke", which were more than enough to carry ... LP, Vinyl record album

Adam Wade

Adam Wade
Kirshner, 1977. Very Good+
Ahh . . . The 70s. It was a time when the record industry was booming so large that a guy like Wade – a minor TV actor who was a bit of a singer and entertainer – could get a crack at putting out a record because the record-making machine was working so fast you could sneak just about ... Boz Scaggs

Silk Degrees
Columbia, 1976. Very Good+
Blue-eyed soul from Boz Scaggs, with a decidedly Philly influenced sound to the production, which we'd hazard a guess comes more from the Hall & Oates side of town than the Sigma Sound axis. Still, this is a solid album with the irresistible hit "Lowdown", still a favorite around ... LP, Vinyl record album

Richie Havens

Mixed Bag
Verve, 1967. Very Good+
The genius of Richie Havens at this point is beyond compare – a unique take on the dying folk sound of the 60s, one that infused it with a deeper sense of soul that helped it get new legs in the Woodstock generation – yet which is also heard here before any of the post-hippie cliches ...
