One

LP (Item 1598) CTI, 1974 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
A landmark album – not only for Bob James, but for CTI and the Fender Rhodes as well! This is the album where all the magic starts – the first of many extremely successful albums that Bob recorded during the 70s under his own name, and almost the birthplace of the modern hip hop keyboard sample line! The album's stuffed with great numbers – including a sublime reading of "Feel Like Making Love", and the classic "Nautilus" – a slow, dark, funky tune that's worth the price of the album alone! Other tracks include "Valley Of The Shadows", "Night On Bald Mountain", and "Soulero".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing with Van Gelder stamp. Cover has some gloss peel on one seam and aging inside the gatefold.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bold Conceptions
Mercury, 1962. Very Good+
Early early work by Bob James – recorded years before his classic 70s sides on electric piano, and in a brightly modern mode that recalls the spirit of Steve Kuhn and Paul Bley at the time! The set's a trio session – produced by Quincy Jones, who'd heard the young James and rushed him ... LP, Vinyl record album

CTI, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold

Heads
Tappan Zee, 1977. Near Mint- Gatefold
Heads or tails, it's a winner every time – as the record's one of the last clear moments of genius from keyboardist Bob James in the 70s! The sound here is stepping out a bit more from Bob's earlier sides on CTI, but there's still plenty of great keyboard work to make the album worth seeking ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bob James

Two
CTI, 1975. Very Good+ Gatefold
A monster – and quite possibly one of the greatest Fender Rhodes albums of all time! Sky Dive
CTI, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
A killer set from Freddie Hubbard's legendary years on CTI! Pure Desmond
CTI, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
An album of sublime understatement from alto genius Paul Desmond!
