Chicago – The Blues Today (3 X 180 gram vinyl box set)

LP (Item 159569) Vanguard/Craft, 1965 — Condition: Sealed
3LP Gatefold
A seminal set of Chicago blues – still ten times better than all the imitators it spawned – and a beautiful package that brings together all three albums in this legendary series from Vanguard Records! These are tracks that were all captured at a time when the city's scene was nice and raw – new ideas in electric blues still spilling out of clubs on the south and west side, where producer Samuel Charters was able to capture these cuts with some of the same strengths he brought to rural blues collections from the south for other labels. The package is overflowing with key work from legendary figures – including Junior Wells, JB Hutto & His Hawks, Otis Spann, Jimmy Cotton, Otis Rush, Homesick James, Johnny Young, and Johnny Shines.  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
