This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Classic early set featuring the Jazz Messengers back when the group still included Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, and Kenny Dorham. Hard hard hard bop, cracklin' with energy, and a great example of the kind of playing that made the group an instant success. Tracks on this second volume include " ... LP, Vinyl record album
A hard-swinging cooker from Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers – recorded during the landmark year of 1957 – when Blakey's group was open to recording for a number of different labels, in a number of different settings! The set was originally done for the west coast stalwart Pacific ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great meeting of tenor sax talents old and young – as the up-and-coming John Coltrane plays alongside Paul "Vice Pres" Quinichette – in a classic Prestige session of well-blown saxophone work! A rare session as a leader for trumpeter Jon Eardley – a strong 50s player in Gerry Mulligan's group, one with a tone that is both cool and modern, but also able to move deftly in bop circles! This set features a septet (as might be expected by the title) – with players that include ... LP, Vinyl record album
An unusual title, but one that refers to Jackie McLean in quartet, quintet, and sextet formation – a growing lineup that develops along the course of the record, as new players are added into the mix with a casual, almost blowing session approach! The set begins with Jackie's alto set out in ... LP, Vinyl record album
A surprisingly great album – one that features Herbie and Bobby trading flutes and tenor, blowing long solos in a set that gives them plenty of room to work! The album only features four long tracks – "Let's March", "Tel Aviv", "Somewhere Else", and "C ... LP, Vinyl record album
Totally great work from a young Eric Kloss – grits, gravy, and a whole lot more! About half the record has Kloss blowing with a quartet that includes Jaki Byard on piano, Richard Davis on bass, and Alan Dawson on drums – going for a style that's more towards the soulful end of Byard's ... A great collection – one that features a side of material from the album Soul, with piano by Ray Bryant; and another side of a set recorded with the Red Garland Trio. A 2LP set that brings together most of the material from the first three full-length albums by the Modern Jazz Quartet – all recorded at a time when the combo were first forging their famous sound! Most of the sides here are in contrast to the group's better-known Atlantic work, because the ... LP, Vinyl record album
An album issued in the years after John Coltrane left the Prestige Records label – but a set that includes some very compelling sounds from the early years, really showing the tenorist in a strongly spiritual transition! Coltrane plays tenor throughout, and the record also features the Red ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bad Bossa Nova is right – as Gene Ammons really hits a great groove here – one that's not exactly bossa, but which has lots of Latin and tropical touches! The session makes great use of 2 guitars at the same time – using that of Kenny Burrell for soulful rhythm, but also adding ... LP, Vinyl record album
