Crack In The World/Phase IV

CD (Item 158737) La La Land, 1965/1974 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

✈
Two obscure sci fi soundtracks – back to back on a single CD! First up is 1965's Crack In The World – scored by John Douglas with a mixture of orchestral modes to illustrate the dramatic scientific bent of the narrative – brooding brasses, airier woodwinds, and some robust passages that burst out strongly with the torrent of action on the screen! Titles include "Love Scene", "No Stopping It", "Magma/Off Sheetwater Island", "Avalance", "A New Moon", and "Stephen Is Ill". Phase IV is something else entirely – a 70s sci fi film that gets a very different soundtrack approach from Brian Gascoigne – whose tracks here are all quite long, longer than seven minutes each, and work almost as mini narratives in sound – as the darker moments are illuminated by occasional lyrical touches, which are then suppressed as more atonal insect-sounding elements win in the end!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Ennio Morricone

Corleone
Screen Trax (Italy), 1977. Used
An epic tale of deceit and power in the Sicilian town of Corleone – scored beautifully here by Ennio Morricone, at a level that prefaces some of the more sophisticated turns his music would take in years to come! There's a depth here that reminds us a lot of Morricone's great soundtrack for ... CD

Nino Rota

8 1/2
CAM (Italy), 1962. Used
Beautiful work by Nino Rota – filled with the kind of classic themes that distinguished his best work for Fellini. Carlo Savina conducted, and he does an excellent job with Rota's ideas – crafting them into short little packets of sound, woven tightly into little balls that pass back ... CD

GNP, 1960. Used
A pretty straight orchestral score from Russ Garcia – but one with some small amount of weird effects, like those he was putting into some of his easy orchestral albums at the time. The overall feel is quite dark – with off-key string passages, and weirdly tuned horns used to create ... CD
