This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Adventurous work from this avant jazz "supergroup" – one that's made up of players who are normally leaders on their own, but who work together here with the great spirit of a group! The lineup features Lester Bowie on trumpet, Arthur Blythe on alto, Chico Freeman on tenor and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Genius work from Adegoke Steve Colson – a player who always has a great way of bridging many different worlds in jazz! The album's got a relatively spiritual feel, but a slightly avant bent too – very much in the spirit of some of the under-documented work going on in Chicago's AACM ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beautifully arranged work from David Murray – an important early large group recording, one that really helped point the way to some of his later genius! The session features Murray leading an all-star octet that includes Henry Threadgill on alto, Olu Dara on trumpet, Butch Morris on cornet, ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great trio set – with Fred Hopkins on bass and Steve McCall on drums – and Murray only on tenor on four long tracks that include "Coney Island", "Corazon", "The Hill", and "Hope/Scope". LP, Vinyl record album
A great live document of one of the greatest groups to emerge from the Chicago AACM and reach a larger audience during the 70s – the mighty trio of Fred Hopkins on bass, Steve McCall on percussion, and Henry Threadgill on reeds! The album's got a soulful and inventive approach that merges ... LP, Vinyl record album
A well-titled set of tunes – as the trio of Joseph Jarman, Don Moye, and Don Pullen really do come together as a magic triangle of sorts! The strengths of the Jarman and Moye team is well-known from their work with the Art Ensemble, and on a few solo recordings – and the addition of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Oliver Lake works here with guitarist Kevin Eubanks – a player who's mainstream moments might not seem like a match for Lake's more avant leanings – but a surprisingly great combination in the space of this mid 80s set for the Black Saint label! Eubanks has a way of matching Lake's ... LP, Vinyl record album
A compelling collaboration between percussionist Andrew Cyrille, vocalist Jeanne Lee, and alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons – one of the freer sessions on the Black Saint label, and one of the most striking as well! Cyrille handles a wide range of percussion – and also a few whistles too ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bold sounds from this hip quartet of American players – working here on an early session for the Black Saint label, in a recording that's got a really great sense of focus! The album's dominated by the two-part track "Warriors Dance" – a number that builds beautifully on ... LP, Vinyl record album
We always love Muhal Richard Abrams in a duet setting – and this album's no exception, as it features the pianist playing in very spare formation with violinist Leroy Jenkins – improvising freely in a concert performance from 1977! Abrams tone is often very dark and earthy, which seems ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great album from Shirley Scott – with some excellent arrangements by Gary McFarland! We've always felt that Shirley plays best when she's not leading the group – when someone else is handling the arrangements, so that she can groove mightily on her own – and this album is a ... LP, Vinyl record album
A unique large group effort from Thelonious Monk – but one that bristles with all the angular energy of his other great work for Riverside! The group here is a tentet – filled with excellent players who include Donald Byrd, Phil Woods, Pepper Adams, Eddie Bert, Robert Northern, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
