Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Gilberto Gil

Quanta
Warner (Brazil), 1997. Used
An ambitious set from Gilberto Gil – and a record that's almost a return to some of the sounds of his roots! Production is by Liminha, and there's still plenty of electric instrumentation on the set – but the overall sound is also more laidback and open, with lots of nice acoustic ... CD

Incredible work from Lenine – easily his best album so far, and that's saying a lot, given the quality of the other sets! This one is landmark, though – the kind of record that seems to push Lenine even further into the stratosphere of MPB, recorded live and delivered with a depth that ... CD

Pamela Driggs

Itacuruca
441, 2002. Used
A really wonderful set of Brazilian vocal tunes – sung by Pamela Driggs in a warm and jazzy mode that recalls some of the greats of the 70s! Production is spare and smooth, but never too smooth – and Pamela sings in a mix of English and Portuguese, scatting and tripping easily between ... CD

Elis Regina

Elis (1966)
Philips (Brazil), 1966. Used
An excellent early album by one of Brazil's greatest singers! The record captures Elis Regina at a prime early stage – when her voice was raw and filled with emotion, and when she was backed by some excellent arrangements that blended jazz, bossa, and more complicated vocal settings. The ... CD
Discovery, 1967. Used
A wickedly wonderful album by Antonio Carlos Jobim – recorded in LA in the mid 60s, and a perfect meeting of styles that makes for one of his most compelling albums of the 60s! Jobim sings and plays over pillowy-soft arrangements by Claus Ogerman – lightly dancing numbers that weave ... CD
Ziriguiboom/Six Degrees, 2000. Used
In a world of supposed crossover Brazilian projects that have mostly lost their roots, the music of Bebel Gilberto is surprisingly refreshing! This daughter of Joao Gilberto (not Astrud) sings in a manner that's in keeping with the classic bossa divas of years past – but she works here in ... CD
