We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used

so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.
Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible
for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt
to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A very unusual repackaging of Cannonball's Lush Side album for Mercury – served up here in a late 60s package for the Power Records label. The original's a wonderfully mellow set of ballads recorded by Cannonball, with orchestral backings by Richard Hayman. The album's typical of the kind ... LP, Vinyl record album
A key meeting of Cannonball Adderley and David Axelrod – and one of the pair's first larger collaborations together! The album features Cannonball solos over larger backings by Oliver Nelson – with some occasional help from brother Nat Adderley – all produced with that dark ... LP, Vinyl record album
Late stuff by Cannonball, with a dope spacey electric sound, no doubt due to some very nice keyboards on the session by George Duke. The album's a bit mellower than some of the others on Fantasy, but it makes up for that with a warm snaking mellow funk groove. Brother Nat gives a helping hand on ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the coolest, baddest, funkiest albums Cannonball Adderley ever recorded – a massive suite of tunes based on the signs of the Zodiac, produced to perfection by David Axelrod, and featuring some hip recitations from the mighty Rick Holmes! The double-length set is completely compelling ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of Barry Harris' rarest albums – an early trio date with Bob Cranshaw on bass and Clifford Jarvis on drums! Includes the original compositions "Around The Corner", "Stay Right With It", and "Bish Bash Bosh". LP, Vinyl record album
One of the rarest albums by this great Texas tenor player! This heavy little gem was one of the few sides that Wilkerson cut under his own name – and it was the only one recorded away from Blue Note, as part of Cannonball Adderley's short-lived "Cannonball Presents" series. The ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great piano discovery brought to Riverside as part of the Cannonball Adderley productions for the label! Dick Morgan plays in a trio with Keter Betts on bass and Bertell Knox on drums – on titles that include "For Pete's Sake", "Like Lois", "Will You Still Be ... LP, Vinyl record album
A trad-revival set recorded on Chicago's south side in the early 60s – part of an excellent series on Riverside, seeking to re-discover some older jazz and blues greats who were languishing in the Windy City at the time! Junie C Cobb plays mostly piano on the date, but also sings on one ... LP, Vinyl record album
Despite the "much brass" tag in the title, this album's really just a sextet session – and not a clunky big brass ensemble one. Cannonball's brother plays with a very swingin' sextet that includes the brassy touches of Slide Hampton on trombone and Laymon Jackson on tuba. Wynton ... LP, Vinyl record album
Budd Johnson was one of those players from the old days who was continually drawing praise from younger and hipper musicians – crediting Budd with a tone and talent that was forever an inspiration to them. Case in point is this 1960 session, issued as part of the hip Cannonball Adderley ... LP, Vinyl record album
