This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
An essential session from the Threadgill/Hopkins/McCall trio from Chicago. The album features long compositions in the group's best tradition – and a good mix of out playing with more spiritual concepts, in a strong AACM tradition. Titles include "Chicago Breakdown", "The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Classic AACM material from Chicago, strangely issued on Arista, but produced by Michael Cuscuna with all the care of a small-label session. The classic lineup of Henry Threadgill, Fred Hopkins, and Steve McCall is firmly in place – and they band interacts with a sense of humor and ... LP, Vinyl record album
A stone classic from The Brecker Brothers – working here at a new level for 70s jazz fusion! Sure, it's as slick as it can be – with touches of club and disco grooves to give an even smoother edge to the jazz funk of the Brecker Brothers – but thanks to some solid soloing that's ... A brilliant record – much more straight forward, and straight ahead, than much of Rudd's other work, which is why we like it so much! The album's an ingeniously subtle affair – with Rudd on trombone and French horn, working with a small group that features Sheila Jordan on vocals, Hod ... LP, Vinyl record album
A much different album than you might expect from the cover – hardly the funky 70s set implied by the Big Fun-styled cover – and instead a lost slice of work from his groundbreaking late 60s years! The set was recorded in 1967, but unissued until Miles late 70s time away from the ... LP, Vinyl record album
We're not sure what "soul-stream" is as a genre – but given the strength of this record, we'd be more than willing to grant it onto Curtis Fuller all by himself! The record's a gem that's even more obscure than Fuller's already-rare dates for Blue Note at the end of the 50s – ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great return to form for guitarist Sal Salvador – a player who didn't always get that much time in the spotlight in the 70s, until a big wave of fresh exposure from the Beehive label! Sal got his start in the Stan Kenton group, where he learned a great sense of color and phrasing – ... LP, Vinyl record album
First volume of the two LP set that compiled JJ's bop trombone sides for Blue Note. Great stuff, and arguably among some of his best work. The arrangements are tight, and JJ's in the company of great rhythm players like Kenny Clarke, Horace Silver, and Paul Chambers, who make the sessions really ... LP, Vinyl record album
A sublime album by one of our favorite talents in 60s jazz – pianist Jack Wilson, making his second Blue Note appearance here amidst a group of other more likely label players that include Lee Morgan on trumpet, Jackie McLean on alto, and Billy Higgins on drums! Despite the presence of those ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hard-grooving stuff from JJ – played with a lot more bite than usual, and recorded live with a group that features Nat Adderley, Tommy Flanagan, and Albert Heath. Tracks include "Now's The Time", "Misterioso", "Walkin", and "Tune Up" – jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic album that mixes trumpet and voices in a swirling soulful sound that worked very well for Byrd's career! Byrd's sparkling trumpet fronts a tight septet that includes Hank Mobley, Herbie Hancock, and Kenny Burrell – and which is backed by arrangements by Coleridge Perkinson and Duke ...
