Dee Dee

LP (Item 15425) Philadelphia International, 1980 — Condition: Very Good+
An album that makes us think that after marrying Kenny Gamble, Dee Dee Sharp seemed to inherit his smooth Philly soul style as part of the family – as her records for Philly International are head and shoulders above her earlier work as a girl singer in the 60s! The record has a cool sophisticated groove that's totally great – a bit of club here, a bit of mellower soul there – a wonderful balance that makes Dee Dee into a much fuller artist than she was back in the 60s. The set's got loads of great cuts, including "Easy Money", "I Love You Anyway", "If We're Gonna Stay Together", and "Everyday Affair". Jerry Butler produced a number of cuts – and the set was recorded in both Chicago and Philly.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bunny Sigler

Keep Smilin'
Philadelphia International, 1974. Near Mint-
One of Bunny's earliest, and one of his best. Although some of the tracks have an uptempo pre-disco feel, there's none of the excesses of his later albums for Gold Mind. Instead, there's a solid Philly soul groove, and great production by Bunny, with arrangements by Norman Harris and Ronnie Baker. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Black & Blue
Philadelphia International, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Classic Philly soul from Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes – a killer batch of studio tracks, despite the live image of the group on the cover! Calling All Beatniks
Passport, 1984. Near Mint-
Post-August Darnell work by Dr Buzzard's Savannah Band – no longer using the "original" in their name! There's still a retro-styled feel here overall – with some of the swing-esque modes of earlier albums, but also a bit of rockabilly as well – an element that kind of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Heaven & Earth
Mercury, 1978. Very Good
Excellent work from this smooth Chicago vocal group!
