Fifth Word

LP (Item 1525) Embryo, 1970 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
Weird and wild sounds from Jerry Novac – an artist who fits right in with the openly progressive style of Atlantic's Embryo label at the start of the 70s! The tracks are long and sometimes trippy – and Novac plays piano and organ, and adds vocals – while Buzzy Feitan and Eric Gale add in some guitar – next to drums from John Dzubak. Titles include "I Am A Classified Freed Speak", "Beyond The Look", and "Present 2nd Ave".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the original die-cut cover, which has some very light wear, and a small bump in one corner – otherwise very nice.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

MPS, 1975. Very Good+
One of George Duke's best albums for the MPS label – and a set that has a sound that's a little bit more soul than before! The album uses a fair bit of vocals alongside Duke's funky keyboards – but in a way that's not nearly as smooth as some of his albums for Epic, and which still ... LP, Vinyl record album

Coltrane Plays The Blues
Atlantic, 1960. Very Good-

Gene Ammons

Jug
Prestige, 1961. Very Good-
A real turning point in the career of Gene Ammons – a record that almost returns Ammons to his earthier roots, and in the process helps build up a whole new sound in soul jazz for the 60s! The "Jug" nickname in the title is kind of a joking way to help Ammons stand alongside "M ... LP, Vinyl record album

Richard Williams

New Horn In Town
Candid, Early 60s. Very Good+
A brilliant session of modernist hardbop – one of the few records ever cut as a leader by trumpeter Richard Williams! Moodsville, Early 60s. Very Good-
Beautiful beautiful work from tenorist Gene Ammons – and an album that really demonstrates that during the 60s, one of Ammons' strongest suits was his work with a mellow tune or ballad! Beach Boys

Stack O Tracks
Capitol, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold
Beach Boys karaoke – or kind of a "music minus one" album – but whatever the case, the set's a pretty unique outing in the field of 60s pop! The record's exactly what the title promises – a "stack o tracks" from the group's earlier records – rhythm parts ... LP, Vinyl record album
