Art Ensemble Of Chicago — Urban Bushmen ... CD 18.99

A live set from 1980 – and one that shows the Art Ensemble still able to capture some of the warmth and imagination from their early years. Most tracks are fairly long, and the group move through their usual panopoly of instruments along the way. Titles include "Urban Magic", "Sunprecondition Two", "Theme For Sco", "New York Is Full Of Lonely People", and "Ancestral Meditation". (Cover has light wear.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

ECM, 1980. Near Mint-
One of the few ECM sides recorded by the Art Ensemble Of Chicago – easily some of the hippest work the label issued at the time, and a key way for the avant collective to get a bit of large audience exposure! The sound is still very much in the best AEC style here – and if anything, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1973. Very Good+
A seminal moment for the Art Ensemble Of Chicago – one of their first albums for a widely-distributed label, and an exceptionally strong live performance that really gets to the core of the group's unique approach! ECM, 1982. Very Good
A really wonderful little record from Pat Metheny – quite possibly our favorite by the man, thanks to some really inventive sounds that still resonate strongly in the groove scene today! ECM (Germany), 1970. Near Mint-
A seminal session that forever put the British improvisational scene on the map – a great little record that features guitar by Bailey, soprano sax by Evan Parker, electronics by Hugh Davies, and work by Jamie Muir and Christine Jeffrey. ECM, 1970. Near Mint-
Weirdo stuff from Wolfgang Dauner – featuring a lot of crazy electronics (played on a ringmodulator and a Hohner Electra-Clavinet C), and a spacey psychedelic approach to jazz! The record's not as funky as his classic The Oimels, cut a year earlier – but it's a good example of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

A wonderful 70s set from trumpeter Manfred Schoof – laidback and mellow, with lots of warm tones at the bottom! Schoof recorded some sets in the 70s with a more avant approach, but this one has a really cool and soulful feel – and bubbles forth with work on electric piano and organ by ... Last Year's Waltz
ECM, 1982. Very Good
One of the last great recordings of Steve Kuhn's vocal songs – done live at Fat Tuesday's with Sheila Jordan singing with Kuhn's trio! The sound here takes us back to classic 70s sets by Monica Zetterlund and Karin Krog that feature Kuhn's lyrics – wonderfully-crafted words that were ... LP, Vinyl record album
American Garage
ECM, 1979. Near Mint-
A brilliantly evocative album from Pat Metheny – one that's got a quietly epic feel, as Pat and group soar out across the American landscape in a set of tunes that subtly explore space and sound while still remaining wonderfully fluid. A whole new kind of trio session for the 70s – one that has the airy, open lines of guitarist John Abercrombie stretching out nicely in the company of drummer Jack DeJohnette and bassist Dave Holland!
