Reach Out

LP (Item 14550) A&M, 1967 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

LP

Fantastic! We love Burt Bacharach in so many ways that it's easy to forget the genius of these early A&M sides – but going back to them is always a treat, and it's wonderful to hear the way that Burt lays down his own work when given the chance! You know the tracks – "House Is Not A Home", "Bond Street", "Reach Out For Me", "Are You There", "Windows Of The World" – but you may not know the arrangements, which are superb – quite different than the more famous vocal versions you've probably heard ad infinitum, and recorded at a level that brings a whole new magic and majesty to 60s pop! An essential record for any fan of all things groovy – and an album of new pleasures each time we hear it!  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A&M, 1966. Very Good
A standing room ovation in the A&M Studios – certainly the kind of reception we'd imagine Herb would get during these glory years of his career! Coney Island
A&M, 1975. Very Good+
Sweet mid 70s work from Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass – still at the height of their powers on Coney Island – rolling effortlessly between upbeat, jazzy numbers and more laidback and melodic ones! Fresh Air
A&M, 1969. Very Good+
A sweet late instrumental classic from the 60s glory years at A&M – and a record that's far different than some of the earlier work by the Baja Marimba Band! Sure, the group's still got plenty of their "fake" Mexican sound in place here – obviously they can't drop the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Going Places
A&M, 1965. Very Good+
Herb Alpert's definitely Going Places by the time of this set – and his trademark Tijuana Brass sound proves itself to be a great fit for just about any sort of number! What Now My Love
A&M, 1966. Very Good
The genius of this set is summed up in the tune "Magic Trumpet" – perhaps one of the best estimations of Herb's talents we could think of! Brass And Bamboo
Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good
One of the best albums by Tak Shindo – a west coast Japanese composer/arranger who was one of the few exotica artists to actually have the cultural cred to the sound! Caribbean Moonlight
Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good
Not as all-out exotic as some of Les' earlier Capitol albums, but still pretty darn great! The theme here is Carribean exotic, and the rhythms have a little bit more of Cuba and Haiti than they do of primitive Borneo. Les handles them nicely, as always, and contributes some wonderful arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album

Night Love
Evolution, Late 60s. Very Good Gatefold
Slinky strings with a nice moody feel – recorded in a style that's like the best pre-funk work by the Mystic Moods, with a similar sort of ambitious and sensual quality!
