❔

A great second Stax set from Margie Joseph – produced by Fred Briggs with a sound that's as full-on and righteous as the first! The groove here is definitely trying for some of the heights over at Atlantic Records at the time – possibly with a bit of a detour into Detroit – and there's a soaring sensibility to most of the music that really works perfectly with the range of Joseph's voice! The Bar Kays provide some great rhythms, the production is tight, and Margie's vocals are wonderful throughout. Tracks include "My World Is Empty Without You", "Strung Out", "Takin All The Love I Can", and "That Other Woman Got My Man & Gone".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Otis Redding

Dock Of The Bay
Volt, 1968. Very Good
A very important crossover soul album – a huge hit for Otis Redding that was released after his tragic death in December 1967 – but it's also hard to say if it would have had the impact it did had Redding not passed while the LP was still in production. In a way, the record sort of set ... LP, Vinyl record album

Above The Clouds
WMOT/Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
One of the first, and best, albums by this Philly groove combo that sort of represents the "second generation" of the east coast uptempo sound!
