Caliente Y Sabroso

LP (Item 142766) Tropical, Late 50s — Condition: Very Good
(Mono orange label pressing. Cover has light wear, yellowing from age, some splitting in the spine and bottom seam held with yellowed clear tape, and a small name in marker in back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tico/Charly (UK), Late 60s. Very Good+
An excellent set – a perfectly put-together collection of Joe's classic 60s Latin Soul sides for Tico, assembled by Dave Hucker for Charly Records in 1989. We can't think of a better way to get into Joe's music – and just about every track on the album's a stoner winner! Titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

Home Cookin'
SOUL, 1968. Near Mint-
Heavy duty instrumentals from this legendary Detroit tenor giant! This album's one of Jr's best – recorded with a rawer tone than later work, almost a mixture of funky 45 and R&B grooving. Motown favorites like "Come See About Me" and "What Does It Take To Win Your ... LP, Vinyl record album

Impulse, 1965. Very Good+ Gatefold
A pure statement of being and essence – and one of John Coltrane's spiritual masterpieces from the 60s! The 1965 recording was one of Trane's most adventurous so far – as it featured just one album-length track, building up out of relatively free expressions from Coltrane in the studio ... Joe Daley with Hal Russell

Joe Daley Trio At Newport 63
RCA, 1963. Very Good+
A rare modern jazz set from the early 60s – noteworthy in that it's one of the few recordings from the time of Chicago tenorist Joe Daley – who works here in a trio with the young Hal Russell on drums! And yes, that's the same Hal that later broke out strongly in the Windy City avant ... LP, Vinyl record album

Willis Jackson

Neapolitan Nights
Prestige, 1963. Very Good
Moody set of tracks that has Willis' fat tenor sound fronting a little combo on a set of "Italian" standards like "Arrividerci Roma", "Volare", "Al Di La", plus the original "Verdi's Vonce". Bucky Pizzarelli's on guitar, to give the LP a "Neaop ... LP, Vinyl record album
