Tierra En Trance (Venezuelan pressing)

LP (Item 142139) Egrem (Venezuela), Late 70s — Condition: Very Good+
Sweetly complicated work from Irakere – tunes that mix up equal parts jazz and Latin, electric and acoustic! Chucho Valdes heads the group, and plays some mighty nice keyboards – sometimes spacey and stretched out, sometimes a bit more in the groove – as well as some killer acoustic piano too, handled in the firey style he's become known for on these shores over the years. Other instrumentation includes electric guitar, flute, tenor, and trumpet – plus lots of percussion on some of the longer, more driving numbers. Titles include "A Chano Pozo", "Palia", "Las Margaritas", "Tierra En Trance", and "Estela Va A Estelar".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Willie Colon & Ismael Miranda

Doble Energia
Fania, 1980. Very Good
Willie Colon helps Ismael Miranda get a new sense of energy in his music – backing the vocalist here with a tight set of salsa backings that are every bit the best Colon sound of the late 70s! Ricardo Ray/Bobby Cruz

Los Durisimos
Alegre, 1968. Very Good+
The hard ones serve up a great blend of Latin soul, late 60s pop, and some heavy-hitting touches! Bobby Cruz is still singing a few of these tunes in his slightly more romantic style of the 60s – but the best cuts on the album have a snapping, upbeat quality that really makes them groove ... Vacation At The Concord
Coral, 1958. Very Good+
A great document of the crossover between the New York Latin scene and the Catskills – the upstate resort community that was as important to the Latin groups as the uptown clubs! Like many groups of the period, Machito's found a heck of a lot of work in the Catskills during the 50s – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Water Babies
Columbia, 1967. Near Mint-
A much different album than you might expect from the cover – hardly the funky 70s set implied by the Big Fun-styled cover – and instead a lost slice of work from his groundbreaking late 60s years!
