Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Michael Jackson

Invincible
Epic, 2001. Used
Well, it turned out that the man himself wasn't invincible – but his music has had surprising durability over the years – to a point where even later material like this sounds pretty darn great over the passing of time! The rhythms and production are more contemporary than some of ... CD
Epic, 1971. Used
A wonderful album from Sly and crew – moving way past the straight funk approach of earlier records, into a complicated crossover soul style that's filled with warmth and righteousness! Despite the political tone implied by the "riot" in the title and the co-option of the American ... CD

Melba Moore

Closer
Epic/PTG (Netherlands), 1980. Used
An overlooked set from Melba Moore – an Epic session from the start of the 80s, and one that's served up with a nicely understated groove! There's a bit of disco in the mix, but the sound's never too far over the top – and in a way, Melba's working in the same sophisticated territory ... CD

Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Used
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! There's a tightness here that surpasses even that of Prince's early classics for Warner Brothers – an unabashed love of a pop hook that makes for some incredibly ... CD
Motown, 1976. Used 2CD
An incredible record – quite possibly our favorite ever by Marvin Gaye! The album is quite unique – written by Leon Ware, and recorded in collaboration with him – done as a "suite" of tracks based on themes of passion, joy, and new love – all of which were very ... CD
New Line, 1997. Used
A big early moment in Neo Soul! Features work by Maxwell, Lauryn Hill, Kenny Lattimore, Cassie, Brand New Heavies, Cassandra Wilson, Marcus Miller & Meshell Ndegeocello, and Trina Broussard. CD

Shades Of Brown

S.O.B.
Cadet/Dusty Groove, 1970. Used
Amazing soul from Chess Records – and an album that almost feels like some lost small-label soul set, or a batch of rare funky 45s! Shades Of Brown are an ultra-hip male group from Chicago – a quartet of singers with the range and depth of The Temptations or Dells at their best, ... CD
Rhino, 1950s/Early 60s. Used 4 CDs
Even better than the first one – with a bigger range of obscure tracks! Music from the Dominoes, the Swallows, the Cardinals, the Colts, the Five Keys, the Drifters, the Harptones, the Jarmels, the Nutmegs, the Clovers, Robert & Johnny, the Chantels, and more! CD
Rounder/Ace (UK), 1985/1987. Used
Two early albums from Barrence Whitfield & The Savages – both on CD for the first time! First up is Dig Yourself – a mid 80s set that hearkens back to the years of 60s soul and garage – served up by one of the hardest working Boston bands of the time – a real precursor ... CD
