This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Early work by Jamal, recorded back when he was really turning heads with his sophisticated approach to the piano. The album's all trio material – played in Jamal's piano/bass/guitar drumless format, which leaves the notes just floating in air, swirling around in smoky clouds of imagination. ... Classic 30s work from trumpeter Bunny Berigan – served up here in a great 50s LP package that showcases his talents on the horn! There's a warmth and raspy charm to these sides that instantly shows why Berigan was a standout player at the time – an artist who could hit the hard notes ... LP, Vinyl record album
A really really wonderful little record – one that's far more than you might guess from it's slightly gimmicky title! The session's clearly done in a mode to resonate with the Charlie Byrd or Stan Getz bossa work of the early 60s, but it's also got a slightly offbeat quality that makes it ... LP, Vinyl record album
A brilliant album of Latiny grooves from Diz! The record takes off from the soulful/modal mood of the early 60s groups with Lalo Schifrin and Kenny Barron – and features a young Mike Longo crafting some fantastic lines on piano, stretched out over tight rhythms on electric bass and drums, ... A real smoker of a session – Rusty Bryant's first comeback album of the jazz funk years, done in a mode that virtually set the tone for other Prestige sessions of the time! Rusty's working here on alto sax, in a mode that's clearly inspired by the Lou Donaldson sessions of the time on Blue ... LP, Vinyl record album
An excellent Houston Person set from the late 60s – and a record that's unlike any other that he did at the time! The groove here is a bit less funky, and a bit more conceptual – kind of a soaring vibe that's still quite soulful, but in less of the stock soul jazz mode that Person was ... LP, Vinyl record album
A real cooker from the great Hammond hero Don Patterson – a set that adds in the trumpet of Blue Mitchell and tenor of Junior Cook – in addition to Don's core trio of Pat Martino on guitar and Billy James on drums! The addition of horns takes the material places that Don's earlier ... LP, Vinyl record album
An unusual early session from the great pianist Steve Kuhn – recorded in Paris in 1969, but with a much more structured vibe than some of the Actuel sessions at the time! Steve's definitely got an edge, though – as do group members Steve Swallow on bass and Alto Romano on drums – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Jazz in romantic places, but some pretty groovy ones too – a host of global destinations all referenced in the track selection for the set! Dave Pell's tenor is at the lead on most numbers, but the octet's in fine formation too – arranged by Jack Montrose, Marty Paich, Johnny Mandel, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Diz breaks past his bop playing, takes a bit of a turn towards swing-based material, and also hits this nice rolling groove that gives a bit of a peek at the way he'd sound in the 60's, when he had Lalo Schifrin on piano, and more of a Latin sound. He's backed here by Junior Mance on piano, Les ... LP, Vinyl record album
Classic pop soul jazz from the inventor of the genre! Ramsey's funky piano is backed by some soulful arrangements handled by Richard Evans – in a really tight style that includes great percussion, electric bass, and an all-out kicking style that makes even the mellowest tunes groove! Evans ... LP, Vinyl record album
Man, it's like a talent bomb exploded! This set's stuffed with work by some of the greatest jazz funk players of the early 70s – Johnny Hammond, Bob James, Deodato, George Benson, Joe Farrell, Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard, Grover Washington Jr, Hubert Laws, and others – all ...
