And So On

LP (Item 13873) Reprise, 1971 — Condition: Near Mint-
Tragically flawed genius from the young Jimmy Webb – one of the artist's first few albums under his own name, done after a strong late 60s run of pop work for other singers! The sound here is much more personal and earthy than some of the more famous Webb-penned hits – tracks that explore gentle themes, gently – telling tales of love, loss, and life without any epic trappings or over-extended expectations. The move's a really surprising one, given the Bacharach baroque quality of Webb's productions for other artists – but it's also a really heartfelt move away from the mainstream, yet one that seems to open the door for newcomers in the singer/songwriter generation that included Steely Dan and Todd Rundgren. Titles include "All My Love's Laughter", "Pocketful of Keys", "See You Then", "If Ships Were Made To Sail", and "Met Her On A Plane".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

El Mirage
Atlantic, 1977. Near Mint-
The songwriting of Jimmy Webb meets the studio genius of producer/arranger George Martin – for this one-off Atlantic album from 1977, a strange little set that almost has Jimmy sounding far older than his young years at the time! Martin's working in a style that follows nicely from Webb's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Words & Music
Reprise, 1970. Near Mint-
Although Jimmy Webb is best known to the world for the pop hits he gave LA when he was a wee wee lad ("MacArthur Park", "Up Up & Away", etc), he also has a lesser-known recording history, the better part of which is represented by his early recordings for Reprise. This ... LP, Vinyl record album

Waka/Jawaka
Bizarre/Reprise, 1972. Very Good+
Wonderful stuff from Frank Zappa – a set that still has all the freak-out feel of the early years, yet which also shows a real maturation in his arrangement styles as well! Pentangle
Reprise, 1968. Very Good
An amazing start to a short but legendary run from Pentangle – a group who played strongly on the guitar genius of Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, but who also adds in a fantastic sense of rhythm too – really transforming the music in the process! LP, Vinyl record album

A really wonderful little record – by a group who should have been much bigger than they were! Despite the fact that these guys are an obscure rock band with a silly name, the record's a perfect example of the subtly soulful work that was coming out of various west coast sources during the ... A really cool album from The Fugs – one that almost comes across as more of a multimedia effort than their earlier records – yet still delivers all the wit and politics of those gems too! Reprise, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the most fully-formed albums from The Fugs – still quite hippy dippy, but with a focus that's sometimes missing in their other work! And despite the somewhat major label placement of the set, there's arguably even more power here than on the group's earlier indie sides – thanks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Neil Young

On The Beach
Reprise, 1974. Very Good+
You might not guess it by the records that tend to grace our pages, but we do love some Neil Young around the Dusty offices.
