Pachanga Con Puente

LP (Item 13724) Tico, 1961 — Condition: Very Good-
A very nice record from the early 60s that marked Tito's first for the Tico label – and which was a hot set of pachanga grooves with a tight small combo feel, in a manner that really blew away his RCA work! Tracks include "Un Telegrama", "A Bailar Pachanga", "La Charanga", "Pachanga Mood", and "Pachanga Beat". Lots more goodies, and a nice set of grooves!  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tico, Early 50s. Very Good
Classic early work by Machito – recorded back when Mario Bauza was playing trumpet, and acting as his music director! The band has a good hard sound, with lots of strong jazz soloing, and plays with a fire that's missing from a lot of his later recordings. Tracks include "Asia ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ismael Rivera Y Sus Cachimbos

De Todas Maneras Rosas
Tico, 1977. Very Good Gatefold
Warm Puerto Rican soul from Ismael Rivera – working here on one of his classic 70s albums with backings from the Cachimbos combo – a great little group that's led and arranged by Javier Vasquez on piano! Tito Rodriguez

Senor Tito Rodriguez
Tico, 1958. Very Good+
An excellent little set from Tito – recorded in the late 50s for Tico, with a groove that's harder than much of his 60s work for United Artists! The lineup includes some nice jazzy vibes work on a few tracks – and the album includes the great percussive track "Suena Tu Bongo (Beat ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Cuba, Tito Puente, Graciela, Machito, and Miguelito Valdes play a nice little batch of "Spanish songs mama never taught me" on this early 70s various artists set for Tico. Not necessarily a night "out" with Machito, as the material appears to be all studio recordings – but the album is a good example of the variety of Machito's successful group of the late 50s, and will give you an example of the kinds of tracks they'd run through in a live show. ... A 70s album, but one that features some killer cuts from his early 10" and 78rpm recordings for Tico – the kind of work that really helped set the New York scene on fire in the postwar years! Tracks include "Harlem Nightmare", "Mambo Manila", "Joe Lustig ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tico, Late 50s. Very Good+
A real corker from Machito – a set that's got a lot more bite and earthy fire than some of his other albums of the 50s – as you might be able to guess from the cover and the title! The record definitely lives up to the Afro-Cuban promise on the front – thanks to very hip ... LP, Vinyl record album
