A stunning step forward for the great Elis Regina – and a landmark record that would set the stage for most of her final work to come in the 70s! The album's got less of the jazz or bossa inflections of her music from the 60s – and instead moves into this richly sophisticated style that seems to unlock endless new corners in her vocals – that emotive, expressive depth that instantly made Elis one of the most powerful forces of her time – an artist revered by both hipsters and the mainstream. Partner Cesar Camargo Mariano handles all the backings – again moving past his own bossa roots too – and titles include "Bala Com Bala", "Mucuripe", "Vida De Bailarina", "Atras Da Porta", "Cais", "20 Anos Blue", and a nice spare version of "Aquas De Marco". CD features the bonus track "Entrudo".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Looks like a "greatest hits" set, but it's actually an excellent collection of rare early work from the 60s – featuring a young Elis singing to light bossa and jazz arrangements, in a style that's quite different from her later work. Unfortunately, the package gives no real ... CD

Elis Regina

Falso Brilhante
Polygram (Brazil), 1976. Used
One of the most diverse albums that Elis Regina cut during the 70s – a set that seems to leap from style to style with each new track, and really build from some of the more staid and jazz-based styles of her other records! Cesar Camargo Mariano is still in charge of arrangements here, but ... CD

Elis Regina

Samba Eu Canto Assim
Philips (Brazil), 1965. Used
One of the first albums ever by this legendary bossa singer! Even at this young age, Elis Regina diplays a talent for interpretation and an emotional power that few other Brazilian vocalists could match – a way of putting over a tune that brought a whole new level of sophistication to ... CD

Philips (Brazil), 1982. Used

Well, it's not the 60s anymore – but this is still a wonderful album that reunites Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil in the spirit of their Tropicalia years – done in a style that shows that creative invention was still alive in MPB during the 90s! There's echoes here of modes to come by ... CD

Show Elis e Miele
Philips (Brazil), 1970. Used
Great stuff! In a manner that's similar to (but better than) her live albums with Jair Rodriguez, Elis performs here in a great live show with the nutty Miele. The backing is by the Elis 5, led by Roberto Menescal, and they have a great groove that supports the material very nicely. Plus, the ... CD

Philips/Verve, 1965. Used
Very groovy bossa tracks – very much in the mode of some of the Verve hit recordings of the mid 60s! After the success of the Astrud Gilberto/Joao Gilberto work with Stan Getz, it's clear that Philips and Luiz Bonfa wanted to get in on the act – and they've paired Bonfa's guitar with ... CD
