A great document of the Jewish/Latin crossover scene of the late 50s – and proof that the Catskills and Miami were every bit as important to Latin music as the scene in Spanish Harlem! Pianist Irving Fields headed up a hot little trio during the 50s – playing to high-toned crowds uptown, but also winning the respect of bandleaders Xavier Cugat and Tito Puente with his lively approach to Latin rhythms on the keys – a style that's got the same mix of syncopation and firey fingerwork you'd find on sides by Joe Loco, Eddie Cano, or other Latin pianists at the time. This set's got a kitschy title, but a great little groove – it beautifully mixes the emotive themes of older Yiddish music with the newer groove the New York crowd was digging at the time. Titles include "Belz", "Pretty As A Moonbeam", "Where Shall I Go", "Raisins & Almonds", "Cha Cha No 29", "Miami Merengue", and "David's Dance".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Joe Cuba breaks out with some great work from his classic sextet – a cool combo who really helped rewrite the rules for Latin music in the 60s! The group's got this focus that's quite different than the larger Latin bands of the previous years – yet they also kick a lot harder than the ... CD

A sweet little album from Laurindo Almeida and his "Bossa Nova All Stars" – not a group of Brazilian musicians, and instead a hip set of LA players who really help make the set sparkle! There's a bit more jazz here than on some of Laurindo's other Capitol records of the time – ... CD
